Decent value, but I don't see Texier getting traded away at the moment. He's probably the Jackets most versatile player positionallly and seems set up for a real breakout year this year. Plus it just seems like a ****ty thing to do after how his last season went.

If this is at the deadline, I wouldn’t be opposed but I want to see texier at least for a few more games after the ability he showed last season. If he is around the same as last year than I’d pull the trigger. If he’s grown the way we expect him too, then I think we’re better off keeping him.

Side note I am really high on texier and think he’s got 50-60 point upside. While playing a hard nosed two way game.

However the value is there so I appreciate that.

I’m high on him as well and we need what he has. Speed, two way game, good hands. I’m assuming he can enter the zone pretty well which is a major weakness we have on our power play. He is a need imo.

Texier has shown to be a mid-6 guy to me. Now I know what happened with Lehky but I still think spending first rounders for such an asset is an overpayment.

Don't think WPG has plans to move Dillon this cheap considering how much they paid for him. Bad asset management.

Hakanpää for TVR makes no sense for Dallas. Hakanpää is better and has more term.

No one needs Eller at this stage. Dumping him will cost you an asset as cap space is now extra valuable.

Yeah, I could see the Jets moving Dillon, maybe. But I don't think they'll give him away for this little.

don't really think Hakanpaa is an upgrade on TVR. Maybe they try to bring Dillon back at the tdl but he makes too much money to commit to that second year and would probably mean that one of Jensen and Orlov goes unsigned. I still think they keep Eller or move him to a contender that needs one year of good center play -- the Avs still make so much sense as a landing spot for him.

The Texier move is interesting. I'm all for trading this year's first for immediate help and even a rental, but I don't think Texier is the right profile for them to go after. He's yet another unproven guy with some skill but I'm not sure where people are getting the "nice two-way game" from -- he has significant issues defensively and doesn't really drive play in the O zone enough to make up for it yet. Strome and McMike both fill that role already with higher upsides, and especially with Ovi and Kuzy needing favorable zone starts I don't think its a good idea to have 4 out of 5 centers on the roster play best in sheltered offensive roles. @justaBoss brought up the Lehkonen comp but Texier both in his actual performance so far and his player profile would be a much bigger risk to sink a first rounder into. I would much rather make a move for a bona-fide top of the lineup player given how many project to be on the market at the TDL -- Miller, Klingberg, Kane, Meier, etc..

Texier would be a project and not a rental. A long term piece to the top six in a few years maybe. It’s a gamble. We need to see how he performs this year before we make this kind of move. I need to do more research and watch more film on him so I can make a another acgm if he is good enough to make this type of move,

I agree and am all for gambles + like the thought process of getting a young guy that is underutilized, but at this point in the team's cycle you make your gambles on prove-it contracts to strome in FA and not with your first in the best draft of the decade imo.

Who should we target. We need a center imo and help defensive defensively. Who should our guys be. Rentals or not

I honestly think that we are fine going into the year. There are 16 legitimate NHL forwards and 8 legitimate NHL defenseman on the roster already, including 5 centers plus three guys in oshie, mojo, and protas who could fill in games there as needed. Like you, my biggest concerns are the second line and whether any of the LD behind Orlov can step into a bigger role. Strome and Fehervary especially need to build off of solid seasons last year.

Barring any truly insane injury crisis, I would let the current squad play out around half of the season and see how Strome, Mantha, and McMichael are doing at forward and how Fehervary is doing at defense. If its clear they need to make an upgrade there, they should go for a big established name that will guarantee to be that top 6 forward / top pair d. Miller is I think the most obvious name with one year left on an already cheap deal that can be brought down even more. Meier is another guy I would consider at forward on an expiring deal. We'll see whether a new coach in winnipeg actually does something, but if they still look horrible PLD, Scheifle, and Wheeler are all intriguing. Tarasenko still has his trade request. On defense there are similarly quite a few guys on expiring deals or on the market already. Chychrun would be the big prize but Sanheim, Dumba, Severson are all expiring.

All of these guys bar Wheeler will almost certainly require a 1st+, and I'm fine with that to go all in on this year. If they're going to do so, however, it really needs to be on someone who can come in and instantly play at the top of the lineup. Brown, Strome, Sheary, McMichael, Mojo, Mantha all to one degree or another are very solid middle 6 guys that have the potential to be top 6 guys -- no need to bring in any more.
