Very cool idea, i'd say
Tampa
Boston
Toronto
Florida (Montour and Gudas are better than people give them credit for)
Detroit
Ottawa
Buffalo
Montreal

I’d have Florida below Ottawa/Detroit/Buffalo tbh. I also think those 3 are very close to call

I can get behind this. Not a fan of Maata/Chiarot and who knows if Edvinsson will make the team or play in the AHL

Detroit has seider and that’s it. There’s an argument for Buffalo over Florida but floridas D is significantly better than Detroit

yeah exactly. edvinsson making the team and pushing a guy like maatta out could push DET up to the top of that second tier

They need to get rid of Zaitsev and get another top 4D but I wouldn’t say abysmal. Chabot, Zub, Sanderson in the top 4 and Brannstrom/Holden on the bottom pair is good

Maybe I gotcarried away there, but if not abysmal they are certainly not as good as the leafs.you finished button 10 in most defensive metrics with much better goaltending. Zaitsev / Hamonic are just no good, Sanderson is a rookie (yet to play a game in nhl but he’s in your top 4). Better d like dahlin struggled in their first year. Holden and brannstom don’t even play for Boston, Tampa or leafs.

Honestly it’s all super close between Chabot/Sanderson, Seider/Edvinsson and Dahlin/Power. The Atlantic D is gonna be insane soon. Those 3 teams will be at the top of the division in 3-5 years

The real question to ask, are any of DET, BUF, OTT bluelines in better shape than the Florida blueline. Other than that top pair, I am not sure Panthers D looks to be a playoff-caliber unit.

Staal, Del Zotto afterall were DET, OTT castaways. Carlsson was waiver fodder.

I could see the OTT d-squad give FL a run for their money, but Bob & Knight will definitely bail out their dmen more than Talbot & Forsberg so idk.

Now if Edvinsson has a monster rookie season and is paired with Hronek, DET top4 suddenly looks really good and much better than FL. But goaltending once again becomes a factor.

Ekblad
Forsling
Montour
Del Zotto
Staal
Bitetto
Gudas
Carlsson

Half are 32+ UFAs.
Carlson was passed through waivers last year unclaimed.
Del Zotto spent most of last year in AHL.

That defense doesn't look so solid to me.

Even if that’s the D they go into the season with , which I don’t think they will, the top 6 will it will look something like this:

Montour-Ekblad
Forsling -Gudas

Forsling is a solid #2 D, Ekblad is a top 10 D in the league. Montour and Gudas are both solid #4 D. They don’t have any liabilities in the top 4. Detroit will likely have one of the worst D in the league on their top pair. Seider is their only top 4 caliber D.
