Waivers

Description
Habs get the 1st pick of all players placed on waivers to start the 2022-23 season
I think the Habs should focus on picking up a right shot defenseman to give us deeper depth at that position
This would allow Montreal to leave Guhle and Barron in the AHL as the top pair

Name Team Age Height Games AHL Stats
Raddysh TB 26 6'0 61 7-18-25
Gawanke Win 23 6'1 65 10-26-36
Priskie Buf 26 6'0 54 8-23-31
Kovacevic Win 25 6'4 62 11-19-30
Allard LA 24 6'1 51 4-11-15

I realize that the defense is still bad but I think it would be important to add a young right shot defenseman to the depth chart

Who do you think the Habs should grab off waivers?
and
How many of these 5 players do you think will actually be placed on waivers?

Are there any young right shot defenseman that might go on waivers that I missed?

I prefer Gawanke, I wonder if Winnipeg will trade him or try to slip him through waivers?

Waivers can be a good thing but to rely on a roster player from them says something. There is a reason these guys were in the AHL all of last year

            Well we do have Wideman
But I think since we have this opportunity to have the first pick at waivers that we should pick up a player who could be useful to our team in the future

I'd hate for the Jets to lose either guy but especially Gawanke, doubt they'll give him a chance anyway though.

Honestly the best players who go onto waivers are normally goalies. Here is a list of players who have gone on waivers and if you just scroll through, a lot of notable goalies go on waivers

TB would say thank you very much because unless you keep him up on the big club. TB just claims him back and doesn't need to waive him again like Barre-Boulett and Seattle last year . You can't claim him and send him to Laval without waivers

I wouldn't put it past the Jets to start Heinola and Samberg in the AHL just to keep Kovacevic and Gawake away from waivers (Kovacevic and Stanley would be the healthy scratches). It would be dumb but it wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah our right side defensive depth is so bad that whomever we claim off waivers may become our #1 RD by the end of the season.

We claimed Pitlick and Montembeault off waivers at the begining of last season and after the trade deadline Montembeault was our starting goalie and Pitlick was playing on our 2nd line and I wish I was exaggerating about that.

That's not quite right. in this case, if the Habs put the player on waivers again, all the other teams that had never the chance of selecting him before at the original waiver would have the opportunity to make a waiver claim.....before Tampa could reclaim the player.

I realize that just like Barre-Boulett last year . Until November it's last year's points . In other words teams like Toronto, Florida Colorado who had more points wouldn't get a chance.
Seriously though like Barre-Boulett he won't get claimed

Darren Raddysh has 2 NHL games played ( well played in my opinion) ,but still only 2 games and he's 26

My main idea is to take a flyer on someone who hasn't been given a chance and maybe they could flourish
I wanted to keep Barron on our farm team in Laval so he could be properly developed
We aren't going to make the playoffs so the Habs can afford to take a chance on a guy who hasn't been given a real chance
We don't have much depth on the right side so I looked at players who seemed under utilized but young enough to possibly break through
Maybe you are right Raddysh probably isn't that guy

This is a good post. I also strongly believe that Hughes will use his waiver position to acquire one, if not two, right shot D.
Even if it means starting Barron and Harris, who don’t require waivers, in Laval for a couple weeks to see who fits our squad best.
Organizational depth at D is absolutely critical.
