Rather keep the picks and sign him in free agency if that’s the price. Not contending, no need for him do fast. Even if we are top 3 in the pacific, we aren’t getting far

They are going to have to take money back in almost any deal they make

I don't think we are too far off from contending imho we are really only missing a high End RHD which this trade solves, I get picks and prospects are good but at some point you need to make a hockey trade too

But this is not following managements plan. They likely think that we still have ways to go before contending. While we think we are on good RHD away, we are likely a bit further. This is not our year. 2023 draft os loaded. This would be very bad asset management

Cap dump and a lottery protected first for Severson extended? Terrible for the Devils

They won't get much more than this, 1st in a deep draft plus a b prospect for a ufa is fair

Comes with an extension so it’s not a UFA
Devils trade him elsewhere then

Canucks can keep Dickinson and replace him with a pick or prospect.

If they're sellers they can get a first and a prospect without taking salary back, they just have to retain. If they're not sellers they're not interested in this package.

Demko is the best goalie in the division? Don't think I'd agree on that. Though likely second or third

They also do not have the second best forward group. They have likely the fourth.

D is pretty weak

Markstrom abousltely **** the bed in the playoffs and plays behind probably the best defense in the leauge, the fact they were so close in Vancouver stats wise leads me to believe if Demko had a better D core in front of him he'd be putting the same number of shutouts of Markstrom, Lehner is out for the year and outside of a good month last year Cambell hasn't done well, Gibson is washed as well, I really don't see a better forward group than this than Edmonton.

Over the last 3 years since Demko became an NHL regular 30 goalies have played 90+ games

https://www.nhl.com/stats/goalies?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20192020&seasonTo=20212022&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,90&sort=savePct&page=0&pageSize=50

By save percentage
Tied for 7th Markstrom 0.916
Tied for 13th Campbell and Demko 0.913

By GAA
Tied for 4th Markstrom 2.51
Tied for 7th Campbell 2.57
20th Demko 2.83

So your argument against Markstrom who has clearly WAY out played him is based on one bad 5 game stretch? Every goalie has good and bad stretches. Markstrom also was great in the Dallas series.

And your argument against Campbell just doesn't make sense. Campbell has been as good or better over the last three years.

Demko has been solid but has not been special besides like a 2-3 game playoff record a few years ago....

I'll respond re the forwards in another post

Vancouver does not have the second best forwards in the division

Vegas and calgary are both better. Possibly la too.

Vancouver has Miller and Petterson as top end guys. Horvat and Boeser in the next tier. Then Garland and Mikheyev (who I actually love) in the tier after. And some unproven youth with upside in Podkolzin and Hoglander.

I'd take Eichel/stone over Petterson/Miller
marchessault/Stephenson is likely a push to Horvat/Boeser
I'd take Karlsson/Smith over Milheyev/Garland

They both have intriguing but unproven guys beyond that and who really cares

I'd take Lindholm/Huberdeau over Peterson/Miller
I'd take Horvat/Boeser over Toffoli/Mangiapane
I'd take Backlund/Coleman over Milheyev/Garland.

Again they both have intriguing youth beyond that...

Even the kings are not far behind. So I guess Vancouver has the fourth best forwards. 2nd or 3rd best goalie.

And ****ty d core...
