The Flames have minimal cap to deal with and honestly acquiring kerfoot doesnt solve their top 6 problem, i dont think the Flames would do that

tbh it can be any contending team trying to add a cheap top 6 key role player. i did think hed fit in nicely in cal , hes a less physical coleman

I’ve heard things along the line of Sonny Milano, or Kadri. I feel like kerfoot would go to a team like the pens or caps, teams that are in win now and no going back

Hahaha, "start his nhl career"?. You mean the same guy who's been calld up to the nhl for the past 4 years and looked bad as an NHLer? Are you sure you know Joey Anderson, the 24 yr old who barely has gotten an NHL cup of coffee in Toronto the past 2 yrs, (6 games in 2 seasons) and the prior two years failed in extensive time in NJ (52 games)?

Hes an AHL tweener, who is not a NHLer.

Toronto can keep him (and would) if he was any good, and the Leafs would love to keep him? To be what? veterans Clifford/Malgin or a real youngster like Steeves or Abrueze will get a callup before him.

hes 24 with 52 nhl games. we cant tell what he is yet, esp with his season with the marlies last year. look at guys like bunting and jeanot, im not saying hes gonna be a star, but u cant say he has no value and no chance to be a full time nhl player.

Really? Engvall with his limited "big" minutes outscored Kapanen last season. Plus the difference in cap 1.1m allows the Leafs to get play 22 man lineup. Like the Dallas trade for the Leafs, not sure if Dallas does. Think Kerfoot is a fit in Calgary as you suggest, but don't know if a second rounder is the his current trade value.

If I thought there were any chance Hextall would do that I'd be a happy man.

The sadder part is Hextall just doubled down on him.

I agree and disagree Kerfoot doesn't solve the top 6 problem in Calgary. Is Kerfoot a 60-80 point guy? No. And ideally that is what the Flames would love to land.

However, Kerfoot is a 40-50 point guy who plays 200 feet rather well. When you look at the Flames roster as it sits, adding Kerfoot creates a lineup that is "scoring by committee" - meaning they could literally roll 4 lines that should produce, with a 1st line driving offense (albeit not how it did last year).

Beyond that first line, all 3 lines have a series of players that should net 40 points (Magniapane one hopes 50). With Kerfoot the lines look something like this:

Huberdeau-Peterson-Tofolli

Kerfoot-Backlund-Magniapane

Pelletier/Coleman-Ruziska/Monohan-Dube/Coleman

Lucic-Rooney/Ruziska-Dube/Coleman

When looking at what that construct with Kerfoot, a several things jump out as positives:

1. Tonnes of lineup flexibility (mix and match)

2. Lines 2-4 can play 200 feet (Sutter should love this)

3. Lines 2-3 will not doubt provide secondary scoring, the third on a highly level than most 3rd lines in the NHL.

4. The fourth line would have 2 30 point players, meaning excellent tertiary scoring (in fact we could argue possible 3rd line production)

5. Beacsue the scoring would be and should be so balanced, Flames can really manage workload management all year long (barring long term injurires), which means......

6. A rested and game ready forward core for playoff hockey.

So, where Kerfoot may not be the "ideal" option for the Flames, what he can do for the lineup is huge.

A case of the sum is greater than the parts.

i think we reached the max ceilling for engvall, id rather give a fresh start to kapanen who has a higher ceilling with solid chemistry with out current second line players, i could be wrong but i believe he has wayyy more to offer and is more of a difference maker than engvall, although the idea of possibly using engvall as a hyman for jt and nylander can also be a solid idea with the 22 man roster, i just dont think the fit is as good and might just be too big of a role which he probably isnt ready for, both options are a gamble but i think kapanen is the safer bet

i think it could even be worth giving a 3rd round pick to a team like arizona to retain 750k x2 off his deal, which would allow to fit in an extra fwd into the line up

That 2nd line is going to be all sorts of nasty.

Treliving's offseason has been brilliant.
