What does the trade deadline look like

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 15, 2022
Published: Aug. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ideally I would like to flip Domi and AA for at least 2nd round picks at the trade deadline. I don’t know if that is likely to happen given JT and PK trades will likely eat up 2 of our retained salary transactions should they occur at the deadline.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Looking for a 2nd round pick in 2023, but would also take the higher of the two 2nds Carolina owns in 2024.
CAR
  1. Athanasiou, Andreas
Additional Details:
Would be willing to take back a 1 year contract, Kase 1.5, Martinook 1.8, to save a salary retention slot. It obviously depends on where Carolina is at with those guys.
2.
CHI
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Looking for a 2nd, maybe if Domi plays well next to Kane all season they could get a first?
EDM
  1. Domi, Max ($1,500,000 retained)
3.
CHI
  1. Stankoven, Logan
  2. 2023 1st round pick (DAL)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Not sure what Dallas cap looks like at the deadline but they have room for Kane now and I remember reading they are interested.
DAL
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
4.
CHI
  1. Lucic, Milan
  2. Monahan, Sean
  3. 2023 1st round pick (CGY)
  4. 2024 3rd round pick (CGY)
CGY
  1. Blackwell, Colin
  2. Toews, Jonathan ($5,250,000 retained)

I think the Canes pass. Athanasiou isn't worth a 2nd, even a future 2nd. You could likely get the Philly 3rd this year, but I wouldn't do anything more for him.

Way too much for Dallas to give up for Kane. If the ask is any of our 3 top prospects, then they should just walk away.

Yeah, I love Max. His game 7 against Boston will go into Canes history, but he's not worth that.

Dallas doesn't have room for Kane now, don't think they will at the deadline either.

CGY isn't trading a 1st for a 3C rental.

As a rental, depending on his season and trade fit, I think AA should be worth a 2nd at the deadline. It’s obviously tricky projecting this type of deal in the off-season but he’s got the tools contenders look for and if he can be had for around 1.5 million in cap (50% retained or contract coming back) then I feel pretty confident the asking price is met.

I definitely think Domi is going to be a harder sell than AA, hence me saving a salary retention slot for him, but at 1.5 cap hit and playing next to Kane for a significant portion of the season I think there will be some teams interested. I don’t want to repeat myself in the same post but assuming he has a decent season I don’t see why the asking price of a 2nd won’t be met.

The team that acquires Kane will have to give up some type of top prospect, and for what Kane is I’m not sure why you wouldn’t especially if you guys consider yourselves a contender at the deadline.

Because:

1. With the way the team is constructed, they aren’t contenders, and they aren’t a Kane away from being contenders.

2. They cannot afford to re-sign Kane after this year, with Hintz needing a new contract.

3. Stankoven isn’t just some prospect, he’s a top tier prospect, he won CHL player of the year this season, he has immense talent, he’s the real deal.

4. The last blockbuster Jim Nill dod was almost a decade ago, by his history, he has never traded a prospect the caliber of Stankoven or a 1st round pick (except to acquire another 1st round pick).

5. If Dallas were to upgrade at a position, it should 100% be defence over offence.

6. Kane has full NMC and would likely chose his next destination...which would limit the market for him.

Not sure I have the same take on Athanasiou's tools as the poster, but that's what this site is all about. I don't see him being a target of the Canes.

If you think the asking price for Athanisiou is met, that's fine, but Carolina are notorious for only going after players with term

I’ve always liked AA and think his speed game would mesh well with canes but have a hard time seeing them give up a 2nd when he’d likely play in the bottom 6 barring injury.

Only salary they’d want to realistically send back is Gardiner. Right now that would cost it’s own pick to dump him, not sure what it’ll look like at TDL so no reason to project what that looks like.

I’d think canes would be more interested in Kane at TDL if he’s willing to waive.
