No GM in their right mind would retain for 8 years. Though if anyone were going to do it, it would be Chuck Fletcher.

Flyers won't retain or trade Coots. He will most likely be named captain this year.

If that was offered without retention, PHI would have to take it, even though they are stocked with dmen.

Bin the Stastny signing and you don't need the retention. Play one of the ELC/lower paid players or sign a cheaper FA. I don't think the Flyers could pass it up then. Main issue potentially with Couturier for the Avs is durability. IIRC he has been somewhat injury plagued.
