Give Greig the Norris treatment

Created by: Green4D4
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 15, 2022
Published: Aug. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't want to rush this guy. He's still only 19. Give him some reps in the NHL, sure but he's not ready for prime time. He'll have an increased roll if he's playing on the top line in Belleville (with Sokolov and Jarventie). From what I've seen at the WJHC, he can play that 4th line grinder but can also play top 6. Injuries happen and I'd like to see him called up to replace whomever.

Looking forward to him playing in the big leagues. Just... patience is all.

Zaitsev and chychrun could be a good combo 2nd pairing to me.
Chabot Zub
chychrun Zaitsev
Sanderson Hamonic
Holden
looks like a solid 7
Zaitsev offers stay at home defense helping Chychrun excell offensively and pushes Sanderson to 3rd pair for a year till he is more seasoned and ready for top 4 min.

D would be :
Chabot-Chychrun
Sanderson-Zub
Brann-Holden/Hamonic

No chance Zaitsev is anywhere near the lineup if they acquire Chychrun. He sucks

Zaitsev... shouldn't be on this team anymore. He's more of a detriment to the D core than you think. He's a black hole when it comes to puck handling skills and is IQ is questionable without the puck. Analytically, he's less than ideal for what he's making and where he plays. Watching him consistently either ice the puck or shoot the puck right at the goalies glove killing the play instantaneously drove me bananas. The only reason he's a stay at home D is because he can't skate that well and has 0 puck skills.

Is that an Irbe pic grin for your profile?

That game last night made me so excited to be a Sens fan. Meri was solid in net for the Fins despite letting in 5, and Roby netted a nice 1T. Greig and Ostapchuk are just *chefs kiss*.

Yes it is!
was the reason i became a Goalie.

and i wasn't aware he was this bad, I've watched him and while he isn't a stellar puck handler I felt he was a decent D guy, good size.
I'm a stickler for pairing offensive D with a solid stay hole D and making sure at least 1D on each pair is above average size.

i don't think the Hawks would take on Zaits for a 2024 2nd and 4th, it would require a 1st or a decent prospect.

I'd consider Ostapchuk or Jarventie... the price for cap space is astronomical right now... frown or just to not have a specific player on the team.

Loved his helmet. Always stood out to me over the other goalies. Him, Hasek and Prusek.

Yeah Zaitsev is an overpaid average at best RHD. He'd be fine on a team that can insulate him on the RHD side playing only like 10-12 a minutes a night where his mistakes won't be as noticeable. He's better than Josh Brown though...

The 2023 1st, Formenton and Brannstrom should be enough for Chychrun. If more is needed add a B prospect OR the WSH 2nd.
Anything more than that is TOO MUCH, imo.
He's had a lot of significant injuries and operations on his shoulder and both knees already. He's never played a full season.

A 2nd and Jarventie to get rid of Zaitsev is 100% worth it. Wouldn't hesitate at all to make that move.

while i agree with you Arizona has stood on the request of 2 1sts and 2 1st round caliber prospects. don’t think they move him unless they get what they want and they have been ultra patient so far.

They have all the leverage. Teams are running at them with offers and it's up to them to field the best one or wait for a team to overpay.

He also wore the same set of pads glove and blocker his whole career, where some goalies go through 2-3 sets a season that was cool to me.

Yes but no. Young bodies recover quicker and with a full off season of training and rehab, I think he'll recover properly... it's no secret he's the best D man in the organization. Specially when he's healthy. Is it worth the risk to trade as much as I have listed here? Probably not... But it's a good ask. Plus, the uncertainty that is situation with Formenton is always a concern.

Ottawa's window is FARRRRR from closing. They don't need to make this move. And they shouldn't. We don't even know if Batherson and Formenton will play in the NHL next year, or ever again.
Imagine losing both of them with no return.... and not having a '23 or '24 1st round pick... and having traded away a few solid prospects.
It's a horrible move for Ottawa to make for (potentially) 3 years of a guy who averages about 56 games per season.

plus in the off season there are 7-8 excellent D guys to choose from either short term older or younger longer term guys! this year playoffs in 2-3 years cup contention.
