This was a Canucks' fan offer originally, no?

Better than a lottery protected first + cap dump for Severson. That was atrocious

I’m off the Garland train. We need goal scorers, not small, pass first players. I love Garland as a player, I love his motor and his compete but I just don’t see how much he would improve our offense.

Lmfao 3rd line C a b prospect and 1st is more than fair for an expiring ufa

Everyone's talking about Garland, nobody's mentioned that egregiously bad Kane trade

Devils fans really out here saying a protected first and a cap dump is awful return for Severson then saying Miller isn’t worth that

Dickinson is a cap dump. He would get 4th line minutes on the Devils making way too much money.

Chiarot got more than that
Lindholm got much more than that
Savard got more than that
Montour got more than that
Muzzin got more than that

All were defensemen that were experience UFAs that are worse than Severson. But keep lying to yourself

Miller isn’t worth that to a REBUILDING TEAM
There’s a difference

They’re not contending

Until they are a confirmed playoff team, trading an unprotected first for a 30 year old pending UFA is dumb

So you believe trading an unprotected first for a pending UFA is dumb?

Depends on the team
If the team is contending like the Avalanche, trading an unprotected first is fine
If the team is a likely playoff team like the Canucks, a protected (top 3/5) pick
If the team is a bubble team or rebuilding, then no

Yes, but you can’t say that a team can’t get Severson for a protected first but then say a Unprotected first for Miller is too much

Ok, but logically, if a good team is buying on Severson (which is likely what would happen) then if the first is protected or not is very likely meaningless, so it’s just a little extra security. It shouldn’t change anything

But why would that be appealing to the team that's trading him away?

The first round pick would be appealing even if it’s not protected

It would be more appealing with less protection. More chance of a higher pick

Chariot got a late 1st and meh prospect? The canucks pick would be higher than FLA and the prospect is also better in my van deal, Savard was dealt for a late first and 3rd and 4th while being retained down to 25% salary in a 3 way trade my Van package still beats that deal as well. Montour got a 3rd? so i don't know how you are saying he got more. The original Sabres deal he was acquired as an rfa and still got a late 1st for it at a much younger age. Muzzin is your best comparable but a deal made almost 4 years ago doesn't work in todays market. also Dubas is notorious for overpaying for guys also with 2023 being a deeper draft than 2019 2023 picks are more valuable than 2019 1sts. the difference in value is about a 3rd between the Muzzin trade and My Severson trade

Severson is significantly better than Chiarot. prospect + late first is similar value to cap dump + 10 spots earlier first. Severson should get significantly more than that
Severson is better all around defensemen than Savard. The vancouver package is barely better than that.
Scatch the Montour (2019 trade) and Muzzin trade because you claim different markets.
Anyway Severson is better than Chiarot and Savard, should get a much better return than they got. Adding a cap dump doesn't help your case. The lottery protected pick doesn't guarantee its a 2023 pick

wouldn't say significantly Chiarot was really good for MTL in the pervious playoffs. Savard is way better bang for your buck at just over 1mill than with him being Savard also was the better player in his own zone when he was traded. like i said you might get a Muzzin like i said was close to 4 years ago a move made by a not so great gm wouldn't set todays market. i like Severson and don't have an issue giving up some quality to get him how ever if you think you are getting a significant amount more than a 2023 1st which is a deep draft along with a b level prospect, you will be very disappointed in the return you will actually get for him. Lindholm is a way better Dman and got a 1st 2nd and B prospect with Ducks retaining 50% on Lindholm which is where the 2nd would come into player in the Vancouver deal i purposed. Comparing it to the Lindholm trade Van gives up the better pick, the better prospect and the better roster player. if NJ retained 50% on Severson i am sure we would throw another pick in, How ever that wasn't apart of my proposal
