There's just no way Buffalo moves Tuch & Tage even though that is very good value, a big overpay by the Leafs

Tbh I don’t even know that it’s an overpay. Thomson is a legit top 6 center and Tuch might be just as good or better than Nylander anyway. He just produced less in Vegas cause he was further down in the lineup then he should’ve been.

Sabres decline. Nylander is only signed for 2 years and if we trade Tuch and Thompson, it’s unlikely we’re competing for those two years.

Definitely wrong on this one, Tuch is not as good or better than Nylander, just had more time on ice than Willy this season and was easily outproduced

I mean Nylander was nearly a PPG player. Tuch coming back from injury on a worse team was at 38 points in 50 games? You really can’t criticize that. Also Tuch is a clutch performer imo. I wouldn’t be unhappy with either guy but I prefer Tuch.

I could listen to an argument based on caphit and contract length but there's no way anyone should ever take Tuch over Nylander if all other things are equal. Nylander is one of the best rws in the league

Nylander is a top line right winger. I just like Tuch’s style of play and leadership abilities more. I would take Tuch in a game 7 that’s all.

Also this trade is kind of silly cause Buffalo isn’t trading Tage “Top Line” Thompson anyway lol.

Hard to speak to leadership abilities if we aren't in the room - Willy also has 3 less points in like 30 less playoff games but..

Everyone in Vegas loved Tuch. And everyone in Buffalo raves about him.

That being said with Tuch he was a third liner his rookie year, and he hasn’t really advanced in the lineup much since then. He was behind Reilly Smith and David Perron and he then Vegas adds Mark Stone too. He does a lot in a smaller role, but I think he can really thrive in Buffalo on their top line.

I really like Nylander and I’ve never understood why fans hate on him. I just like watching Tuch play lol.

I absolutely agree with everything you're saying, I like watching Tuch as well but value-wise, Nylander should be worth more than Tuch in a trade (or maybe equivalent after taking contract situations into account)

Either way, this trade is ridiculous as these two are part of the Sabres core and they aren't trading them, despite this massive return, both teams say no imo

Nylander only averaged about 10 seconds of ice time less per game than Tuch. Nylander also averaged almost a minute more per game at even strength, a few seconds more on the PP which is negligible and over a minute less on the PK. Citing ice time is pointless without proper context.

Nylander also played substantial minutes with Matthews and Tavares. While I love Thompson, those 2 are far better centers offensively.

Nylander only plays with Matthews on the PP and I wouldn't say JT is that much better offensively than Thompson at this point

Fat no from the leafs , Nylander+Knies > Thompson and Tuch in terms of value imo, Knies will potentially be the best player of the 3.

Very interesting conversation.
Sort of which is your favorite ice cream, Vanilla or Chocolate, Tuch or Nylander.
They bring different attributes to the ice and which of those qualities are most needed will determine which player is most valuable at the moment.

Of course it is an over pay, take out Tuch and Nylander, leaving Robertson, Hirvonen, knies, 2024 1st and 2024 2nd for Thompson would be more than Buffalo got for Eichel.
Unfortunately, even this year Buffalo is close to being a playoff team (still missing the dance by 10 to 15 points), this trade would push that playoff game back a couple of years.

Here is the irony, if Tuch was a Sabre on October first 2021, it would have been laughable to turn down Nylander for Tuch and Thompson.

Since Tuch would still be untouchable then I’d say it would still be declined but purely on that reason.

Before this season started Thompson had nearly no value and Tuch had 50 pts and 26 goals in the previous two seasons combined (9 fewer pts and 5 fewer goals than Willie had in the 2019-2020 season).
I may have been a bit hyperbolic, but you obviously missed the point I was trying to make that both Tuch and Thompson became significantly more valuable this past season.
