Description
Kidding!!! Devils fans are way too sensitive. Frankly, most ACGMs overvalue their own players and prospects and underestimate just how real-life GMs value hockey tropes like 'veteran presence' and frankly think no further ahead than the next couple seasons. Look no further than Brad Treliving, who extended term and money to 30+ year old players in Kadri and Huberdeau, and jettisoned an overpriced Spare part in Monahan by including a high draft pick in a deal with MTL. Prospects & picks have value until they don't and most GMs would gladly take on a veteran player who has a track record of scoring provided they have cap space. OR they make space because they feel that asset will keep them employed.

1.) With Kadri now in CGY, COL could stick with their team, promote Newhook and run with it. However, as I noted in the preamble I am supposing that GMs (even proclaimed great GMs) are only as good as their last season. Miller is a PPG+ player. He can play C. He can play W. He can work on the PP. He stays healthy. That and the 50% salary retention broker a deal for young Newhook, Behrens and a '23 1st.

2.) DiPietro goes East to restart his career. MTL offers a late pick, though this could be future considerations. VAN has already identified new goalies for their pipeline. DiPietro is done here.

3.) Garland and a '23 2nd for Severson and the pick that was originally Vancouver's in '20 (Shakir Mukhamadullin). Funny how that could have been the much mentioned Braden Schneider if the NYR hadn't traded for CGYs pick. Kid will still play in the KHL and develop. Given VANs recent plays in being more active in exploring KHL selections, it could be a nice fit down the line. Severson immediately improves the Right Side for VAN and would be a solid 2 for Quinn Hughes.

Assume that Tucker Poolman (who by all reports is a good guy) continues to suffer from migraines and is relegated to IR for the season. This allows for Rathbone to be paired with a platoon of Schenn or Burroughs.

3.) Woo Jets home! and so do Dickinson, Dermott and a '23 4th for the WPG '24 3rd. WPG has been really quiet this summer. They have money to operate. Think there are roles for them - certainly Bowness is familiar with what Dickinson can do, given their history in DAL.

4.) Mott is resigned by VAN for 4th line duties. He will score a 2-year deal at $1.25M. Maybe not the payday he was hoping for, but maybe this allows him to seek a new deal when the salary cap goes up after '23-24. His speed will be welcomed back on the Canucks PK.

Avs wouldnt be entertaining that type of trade, a 2023 1st and Newhook and their best D prospect for a rental is beyond an overpayment for them
Miller is awful defensively, so if you are as only good as your last season, A 2c who can not be trusted defensively isnt gaining 3 of the avs best future pieces.

I don’t think COL trades Newhook 1 for 1 for a rental like Miller that they have ZERO chance of re-signing much less adding a 1st btw their only pick in the first 4 rounds of 22 & 23, and their top defensive prospect. Get real Miller to COL isn’t happening.

I wouldn't say we're sensitive, and there's a difference between overvaluing our players and not wanting Miller.
