Ducks will take Lucic and Vali, but Comtois stays. Drop the pick return to compensate and we’re okay

Very confused as to the Comtois trade, its such an overpay that the Ducks would take it.

That said, we really have no interest in Juuso, we have too many LD already.

The picks are for eating lucic’s dealing without retaining anything

Ah, my apologies, I just noticed you started your account today. @OldNYIFan is the Ducks usual welcoming committee.

Welcome to CapFriendly, where things are not always so friendly, we hope you enjoy your time here!

As to the trade. Lucic is only owed 750k in real money at this point, the popular consensus from both Ducks and Flames fans over the past few weeks is that it costs somewhere between a 2023 2nd and 3rd to eat his deal. I like to propose the 2023 2nd and get a 2023 5th back. Since the Ducks are a small market team, real money owed is an important factor for us, and Lucic, unlike Monahan, can still play a full season, so there is still value there for us as well. Plus watching him take the lumber to Kings and Golden Knights players will increase our ticket sales.

The Ducks are really not interested in Juuso, we already have a huge logjam at LD and two scoring D in our pipeline in Zelwegger and Mintyukov. Juuso will have significantly more value shopped elsewhere.

Lastly, in Comtois, he was our leading scorer a year ago, and we just cleaned house at LW this off season. Given that his age fits our rebuild, he is still under RFA control at end of season, plays at a position of need, and is likely to bounce back from an injury derailed season last year, we likely hang onto him unless its a deal we can't refuse. A first, a second, and Juuso is a deal we can't refuse though.

Valimaki can play ether side and I don’t know why you wouldn’t take that deal because you said comtois was you’re leading scorer he’s still young and has a lot of potential so if you’re a low market team not very interested in big spending most times then get value for him before he leaves because you know many teams are going to talk to him if he decides to test the market and also you have zegras too deal with soon and you want to be able to give him as much money as you want so why waste a couple of millions of dollars for a depth player on a contender which the ducks aren’t yet if comtois is you’re leading scorer something is wrong I’m not saying he’s bad I’m just saying you would think it would be zegras and when I mean THE WHOLE LEAUGE will go after zegras hell he might even get offersheeted that’s how good he’s going to be so if you’re the ducks you need to focus around him not comtois and we are offering you a one year dump and lucic isn’t bad he’s just slow he put up 20+ points and over 10 goals not bad for him who can barely skate and he brings leadership and he can protect zegras if he’s ever on the ice with him and something happens and we are giving you picks we would never trade the 2023 first unless it’s for a superstar because that draft is looking like it’s gonna be DEEP so yeah also I wouldn’t mind grabbing sonny off the ducks hands for some depth

Dude, read what I said. The Ducks would take the trade, because you are overpaying that badly for Comtois.

Now let's address the rest. Comtois is an RFA at seasons end. He doesn't get to test the market unless the Ducks don't give him a qualifying offer, so there is no need to worry about getting value for him before he leaves, the Ducks control if he does or not, it's the whole point of restricted free agency. Furthermore, Comtois fills a need on our team, and is exactly the kind of player Verbeek likes. We believe he will bounce back and will be a great middle 6 winger for us, maybe even play him on the top line from time to time. Hell, we can wait until end of season and then trade away his RFA rights if we want to.

We have loads of cap space to give Zegras, Terry, and Drysdale their paydays. We are barely over the cap floor this season and have Klingberg and Shattenkirks deals both falling off next season among others. We are not hurting for cap space, we are not at risk of loosing Z to an offer sheet.

I never asked for your 2023 1st, anywhere. I said it only takes a 2nd to get us to eat Lucic's deal. Everything else is buying Comtois. You are offering a first, a second, and Juuso just for Comtois, and a 2nd to bury Lucic. That's a huge overpayment that the Ducks obviously take.

So, to conclude, yes, the Ducks take the deal, but it's a horrible deal for Calgary, we would be fleecing you.
