and it's pretty much the same conditions than the Marleau dump, but with fewer words : top 10 protection lol

I think Calgary's front office wanted the pick to have so many conditions to it just to save face.

And make some people think they actually won the trade.

But at the end of the day, they are still giving up a 1st round pick and Sean Monahan for diddly squat.

if CGY's 2024 1st is within 20-32, habs can swap the pick for the 2024 1st

if CGY gets the FLA 2025 1st from the tkachuk trade:
if both CGY and FLA picks are NOT in the top ten, then MTL gets the earlier pick
if the CGY pick is in the top 10 and the FLA pick isn't in the top 10, then MTL gets the FLA pick

if CGY does NOT get the FLA 2025 1st from the tkachuk trade:

- if the 2025 CGY 1st isn't in the top 10, MTL gets the CGY 1st, and if all the following conditions are met:
> 2025 FLA 1st isn't in the top 10
> 2025 FLA 1st is traded to another team
> 2025 FLA 1st is higher than 2025 CGY 1st,
- then MTL gets 2025 CGY 4th

- if the 2025 CGY 1st IS in the top 10, MTL gets the CGY 1st, subject to the following condition:
> If CGY's 2025 1st is the FIRST OVERALL PICK, then CGY keeps their 2025 1st, and instead, MTL gets 2025 CGY 3rd, as well as a conditional 2026 1st round pick. the condition is that MTL will receive the better of CGY or FLA's 2026 1st

Tried to write it in easy form

As you see, the conditions are a beast, the draft board and picks on the Habs page I am still deciding upon how to display. It will be updated in due time.

LMFAO remember last offseason Flame fans were trying to move him for Kuzy... 1 for 1... lol wooof told them back then he was a cap dump.

Man, like, two months ago I was getting chided. “No, Monahan’s worth at least a 2nd. He’s gonna rebound!”

Also, so what is MTL’s cap situation now? Still gotta sign Dach…do they need to move money?

Calgary got absolutely destroyed in this trade. Monahan is still a serviceable player. A 1st to move a guy who is overpaid is very bad. Marleau trade canes received no player and the full cap hit in one season.

Would the only way Calgary gets the Florida’s first only if Montreal swaps right? The “Does not get pick” part is also depending on the Montreal pick swap too right?

Man, I'm just here for certain CGY fans who've been harping for months that Monahan had legitimate value and the rest of our AGM's with deals like this were awful.

This must be a terrible time for y'all. Sending thoughts and prayers, hope you get through this trying time.

To everyone in the ACGMs thinking they can move salary at the cost of like, a 5th round pick, please take note.

Always important to take into account the value of the player when doing a cap dump. Does no one want the player or does no one want them at that price? Makes a big difference

nah, this was def the best offer they had. And its honestly not that bad... They lose one first round pick over the next 3 years. I bet the ask was more before Price said he wasn't coming back this season and it opened up cap space for the Habs to take a cap dump. The original ask was probably the 2023 first and now Calgary got away from having to give that up. All teams over the cap right now are screwed and will have to give something up to get under it.

Okay, so it sounds like the conditions can basically be summed up like this:

If CGY 2024 1st is 20th or lower, then MTL has the option to take that pick. If not, or MTL doesn't take that pick, then MTL will get the earliest non-top 10 pick of whatever 1st rounders are in CGY's possession across 2025 and 2026.

I think.
Maybe.
God please don't make me wrong.
