Habs final moves

Description
My thinking for these trades

Habs want 1st rounders, msotly 2023 but i think 2025 ones wouldnt be too bad either

Minny needs a center who can kill penalties and win faceoffs. Rossi isnt there yet. Dvorak works cap wise (might need to add a contract like Jost or Goligoski) and has term but not too long

Winnipeg still have a pretty good roster and should go for it. All they are missing is another top 6 winger. Anderson fits their system and type of play. No way the Jets actually tear everything down becasue that means traduing Ehlers and Connor

Minnesota has $4.3 million in cap space right now, with three forward slots to be filled. Even assuming that two of those slots went to entry-level contracts, you'd have to retain 50% on Dvorak to make this deal work.

Winnipeg holding onto that 1st like a golden ticket, close to a bubble team unless everything breaks right. Not sure if anderson moves the needle enough, probably need a d man also to have a shot at contention.

Did you forget that Anderson has a terrible contract? Wheeler had a better season than he did (almost double the points) and I doubt anyone would move Wheeler for a first...even if the Jets retained 2.5M

No player making 5.5M and getting 35 points is worth a first

Minnesota declines . Frankly they don't need Christian Dvorak. You adding some B or C D prospect when Minnesota is stacked with D does nothing

Wheeler is also ancient and a locker room cancer

No, you didn't say "probably," you said "might" need to add a contract. The word "might" means "possibly." My point was that it's a certainty that the trade you propose is impossible: either Jost has to come back, or you have to retain 50% on Dvorak, or Minnesota has to make some other move.

Anderson is a borderline cap dump. There's a far better chance Montreal needs to add a first to dump him than there is that someone is silly enough to offer a first for him.

So Minnesota turns Jost at 1X$2M into Dvorak at 3x$4.45M and now only has $1.8M to fill the three forward slots they need to (literally impossible with a $750K minimum). Plus, nothing like carrying that extra cap for 2023-24 when the buyout penalties go up an extra $2M and you have to re-sign Matt Boldy and either re-sign or replace Matt Dumba, Freddie Gaudreau, Filip Gustavsson, and more!

It's a bad trade for Minnesota, flat out.
