The pens wouldn’t even take foegele for nothing. They have less than zero cap space.

well he is getting paid a fair amount and isnt a cap dump. A cap dump is someone with negative value, this is just moving out positive value. Zucker is a cap dump, not Foegele. But i get it, Penguins fans cant handle taking on 2 mil after taking on 6.25 with petry and signing Rakell to an expensive deal, along with other questionable moves recently

He just needs to get a 3rd party to retain a further 25% of Kane's cap. It won't cost much. It's $2.625 in cap space but just $725K in cash - less if the deal takes place during the season.

They gave up the 7th overall pick which is on par with that group in terms of value to be fair

Foegele is 100% a cap dump. You said it yourself in the trade description, “Not sure if Foegele is getting moved but they need to clear a bit of cap”. Doesn’t mean he is an awful player but if he were being payed less you wouldn’t have felt the need to make that trade. Furthermore, you made that foegele trade after the Kane trade, so in reality that Kane trade would have put you over the cap and forced you to trade foegele to avoid being over the cap. Teams aren’t going to pay to help you out lol - especially when it would put them over the cap.

As for your comments on Pittsburghs off season, I think the majority of penguins fans would agree with me and saying that as a whole Hextall has has a very strong off season in terms of the moves he has made. I like the way he drafted, he managed to keep rakell Malkin Letang AND rust which most penguins fans presumed was impossible, and addressed a need by making the back end a bit heavier and adding a skilled player in petry in the process.

A team needing to clear cap doesnt make it a cap dump. They have other options and he has positive value. Youre clearly intentionally misinterpreting it. The Oilers also arent over the cap with Foegele up, just not being able to have McLeod or Holloway in the lineup.

This is the offseason, cap space doesnt exist. A team can go to 100 million right now. techincally, the Oilers have an additional 6.37 mil against the cap because Klefbom and Smith havent been placed on LTIR yet. They go to LTIR at the beginning of the season.

The Penguins have had a terrible offseason lol. Petry is overpaid and worse than Matheson, who was on a unique but solid deal in terms of AAV, overpaid Rakell, gave Rakell and Rust very long term, and traded away the 2nd best defenseman on the team for the worst analytical player in the NHL. TY Smith is actually garbage. And it doesnt matter if that was to clear cap, literally any other defenseman wouldve been better.

As someone in a neutral position, youre being crazy and very bias. If you dont want/cant do the Foegele trade then fine. But it isnt a cap dump and it wasnt even close.

where do you disagree? Matheson is cheaper and better than Petry, Poehling isnt more than a 13F. Rakell and Rust are going to be terrible deals in 3-4 years, Rakell already is.

1. Petry is better than matheson - at least a safer option than matheson. This is far and away mathesons best season and it is unknown if he will be able to repeat it. Petry had 21 points in 30 games after MSL took over he is still a very good player he just kinda stunk on the Habs team which was historically bad for the first 52 games.

2. Poehling had a poor start to his career but hopefully a change of scenery can turn things around. If not it’s not the end of the world though as he wasn’t the Center piece of the deal.

3. Rakell and rust probably will be terrible deals in 3-4 year. But that is the plan - and it’s a good one. Hextall gave rakell rust Letang and Malkin more term than they would have got on the open market to lower their aav allowing him to keep them all. Penguins are only hoping to compete for 2-3 more years anyways so whatever happens after that doesn’t matter.

4. “Rakell already is”. No. For the last couple years rakell has been disappointing because he was dealing with a long term non covid related illness which hindered his play (per Brian Burke), was playing on a pretty dreadful Ducks team, and had no talent on his line. If you play him with geno or Sid he will excel offensively (which we saw in his short time playing with Sid he was pretty electric out there).
