Horrible deal with MTL. As for the TOR trade if NYI moved mayfield theyd probably just want a 1st and a 3rd back like savard/chiarot. I doubt they target sandin after getting romanov and certainly not for this price.

Habs have no room for beavillier in the lineup and I highly doubt they move what’s gonna be a high second round pick in a stacked draft class for a guy making almost the same amount as Mike Hoffman with similar point totals last season.

They were both terrible deals, but they were top 4 on their teams. But whatever, maybe someone will give you that for mayfield - I wouldn’t

Certainly not factual the the Leafs have no leverage. Sandin can sign with any (32) NHL teams. Sandin is the one without much leverage as he hasn't been signed by another team. Leafs more than likely get Sandin on a low contract, becomes no other team has put forth an offer sheet. To say trade talks have seized is fantasy, as the teams talk trade all the time . IMO the Leafs don't want to trade Sandin anyway and why would cheap. young NHL Dman be traded?

I'm not sure why you think Toronto has no leverage. Sandin doesn't have arb rights, so unless he gets offer sheeted (which obviously hasn't happened yet) his options are basically accept an offer or sit out.

It's insane that in nearly every other situation where there's an unproven RFA with no arb rights, the sentiment would be that the team is in control. But somehow, when it's the Leafs, people are like "yeah the team is screwed, have to trade him".

The cap situation is the reason why people are saying they’re screwed

And also not good. He's a 3rd pair defender who outside of the Trotz's stand in front of your net and never leave system, he may not even be an NHLer. He's Zach Bogosian but with less skill. It's going to be so fun to watch the Islanders just flounder without Trotz's system. Big slow grinding teams don't exist anymore.

And both of them are considered huge overpays.

Just dreaming of the seeing the Leafs give up a future great Defenceman for nothing eh? Typical response.

The point is, any team at any time in the same situation would have leverage but the Leafs don't. People like you are on here all the time telling Leaf fans they have no chance of keeping their players. It's been this song and dance for 5 years in a row. There was zero chance they were going to resign Nylander. Zero chance they could sign Matthew and Marner. Moving Marleau was impossible, keeping Rielly was impossible. No chance they will make the playoffs after losing Andersen. And now they have no chance of keeping Sandin. Why? Because Islander fans want to see JT burn.

Really??? Maybe according to you. But nhl gms seem to consistently pay that price so i wouldnt consider it an overpay.

Maybe last year, on a team that missed playoffs. But before that Pulock, Pelech, Leddy & Toews we’re all ahead of him? This year, Pulock, Pelech, Dobson and Romanov ahead of him. He’s 3rd pairing

No mayfield played top 4 with toews. Leddy was on the 3rd pair with boychuk. Again for the past 4 years mayfield has been a top 4 dman. That has nothing to do with this year. And his talent level even if he does play 3rd pair is still that of a top 4 dman.
