Oilers add in this trade. Habs would want a lot more futures than a 2nd in this trade

NYI and MTL easily decline. CHI probably wants a little more as well

I think the deal is close.

Salary is equal
Habs need a RHD
Habs have too many Centers
Habs get 1 year of cap flexibility back
Swap the 2nd to 2023 and this deal gets done IMO

Imo Barrie is more of PP specialist 3rd pairing at this point not necessarily a guy to shelter youth like Habs are looking for. Dvorak value I hope is worth more than 2nd. I don't see fit for Montreal

Barrie had 41 points last season, Dvorak had 33... I know we think he can have 50 under MSL... But let's not go nuts...

Why would Edmonton target Dvorak? They already have tons of centers.

So trade him in a year then. Sell high buy low. Not sure who's being nuts here tbh

And what about the fact that we have 16 forwards signed for next season and 4 defense who are not rookies?

Demote waiver exempt guys? Byron LtIR maybe Monahan too. Trading guys at a low return seems like terrible asset management

I think Hughes mentioned waivers too for adding defenseman so let's see what out there before underselling guys.
That's how I think it will go down. You call it nuts but I think it's commonsense imo

That sounds good, but if you do the exercise you will see there is not room in the top 9 for the players who need to be there, or even the top 12. Taking a players who should be in the top 6 and benching then or playing them in the 4th line is also terrible asset management. Plus the MSL effect will be all but gone, because no player wants to be told he's only worthy of playing on the 4th line by a hall of fame player.

You are right, Dvorak is much more valuable than Barrie
Barrie will help the tank tho 😆

-I could see a world where that Montreal trade happens but I can also understand Habs fans not wanting to sell low on Dvorak - but I also think holding out for equal value back doesn't really work when Bergevin overpaid for him last summer.

-Cap space is worth its weight in gold this summer so I think Chicago tries to bleed a little more out of you for taking on 2x$2.75M. I think throwing a mid-tier prospect at them(Kesselring? Munzberger? someone like that) gets the deal done.

-Isles easily pass. The only time I see them moving Mayfield is if they're out of contention at the TDL, and then they're going to look for a big package back - he's a 20 minute a night guy, kills penalty, good playoff performer, and can be retained down to a measly $725K. You're not getting him for just a mid-tier pick.
