He sure help us to post season last year, yeah I know... I am just talking crazy. That was a super deal trading for Blais, long live Blais. He is the greatest hockey player ever putting on a pair of skates.
So happy?

Well that makes zero sense!?

If we are being honest for a second. Why didn’t Drury just keep Buchnevich instead of signing Goodrow and Nemeth? I’m not even sure rangers r better off with Zibanejad than Buchnevich. Just because of the fact Mika will be a ranger into his late 30’s.

Very good question. Especially since the sings of Buch being a point per game player and he wanted to be a ranger.
Mika is because finally they had 1 C, which is something they really missed during the Lundqvist years.
But like you said there definitely where room to keep Buch and Mika

I think the real issue with the Mika deal is it may be too many years for the AAV. IK Mika was a pending UFA but it’s not a good sign that they are going to be paying him more than Cirelli by 2 million for the next 7 years or so.

I feel like letting Copp go for Trocheck was a mistake too tbh. I was a big fan of Copp’s game and if the isles had cap space I would’ve liked them to target him. Detroit got a good one.

Yeah I know, but I understand that move. Personally it is poor management to sign (be forced to) players in their 28's, 29's. Sometimes it makes sense. But mostly you should have the contract to expire around 30's. And then move for assets. But in Mika's case he is getting paid because of the ridiculous contract he had before. $5,350,000 for a 1 C that is a point per game player for 3 seasons. That is very good.
But seems like NYR is forced to make long term deals. Just look at Trocheck and Goodrow. I can only assume that they need that term to make the AV work.
But Goodrow is a very bad signing in my opinion. He is a good 4th liner but shouldn't be paid 3.7 M for 5 more years. That is at least 1.5 M too much

Yeah maybe but Trocheck does win faceoffs more and brings more speed. Copp was a bit sluggish in his movement.

But they gave up a first for him and didn't even offer him a contract reportedly. That is just down right bad.

I always thought Copp was a good skater. That being said he was a completely different player without Strome. I don’t even blame him for that tho. It’s more about the fact the rangers didn’t h move Kakko up a line. Instead they scratched him in the ECF for an injured Ryan Strome and Dryden Hunt.

He can play 3rd line minutes. He just has the unfortunate distinction of being the most expandable forward on the rangers.

Look I’m an isles fan but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like what Drury did at the deadline. It’s his other moves that I hated. I’m kind of glad Copp and Vatrano are gone. Just cause those r guys that make you want to root for them and I can’t emotionally handle that lol.

Yeah that scratching I think was made to light a fire under Kakko's but. I think he will go into this season with more f-u Gallant attitude.

If you look at the history of players that does good in NYR it is the under dogs. Vatrano and Copp are examples of such players.
Strome his career was deemed over before he came to NYR, so sort of under dog story there too.
Fox being in the shadow of Makar etc. Shesterkin, Lundkvist, all under dog stories.

I thought Strome would be a superstar after his first full year with the Islanders. I think they must have ****ed is his development massively tbh. He should’ve been better tbh.

Yes it is hard when a team you should be hating has a player or more that you really like.
By the way what are the isles doing now in the offseason you think? Last year was kind of rough.

Sadly these things sort of happens sometimes. I am happy he got his career back on track thou. I hope he does okay (not too good) in ANA. Same with Vatrano.

I think they r doing nothing cause the cost of moving salary is too high. I think they paid a premium for Romanov cause he played with Soroky in the KHL and he will be cheap next year. Bigger thing is that Lou’s first priority is getting Soroky and Barzal signed to 8 year deals. Dobson probably signs a bridge due to cap restraints.

Agreed. You can’t criticize either contract given the AAV tbh. My main thing is that I wonder if the rangers would be better off with Copp, Strome, Vatrano and Buchnevich over Zibanejad, Goodrow and Blais.

Goodrow and Blais I agree with. I would want to see this instead. But maybe you are right? who knows smile

Laffy - Mika - Buch
Panarin - Trocheck - Kakko
Kreider - Chytil - Othmann
Hunt - Carpenter - Reaves

That’s fair but Kreider on line 3 seems unfair. Also I’m not sure why Chytil didn’t get a real chance at the 2C spot tbh.

Kreider is great, but scores most goals on the power play. As for Chytil he is nice but very poor in the faceoffs, and has never got to have a true veteran as line mate before. I think he would benefit from that. Pure speculations of course. But COL won and maybe because they where willing to break up that top line, who knows?

Definitely don't see the Avs trading their first in 23 unless it's some kind of deal they absolutely CANNOT turn down. Chytil wouldn't be it.
