No chance isles make this trade. No one trades a top pairing defenseman with multiple years of team control for a bunch of scraps. Only way you get a top pairing defenseman is if you include something actually good, like Caulfield.

Barron and an unprotected 1st in 2023 draft is not something "actually good"?

Appreciate the response. I figured, but what do the Isles actually need?

FWIW I tried to include a bit of everything: A replacement RHD with lower upside who is a little younger, a 1st in the best draft in the next decade, and 2 forwards on extremely cap-friendly contracts who have less upside than Dufour & Raty but who are NHL-ready and will allow the Isles to insulate their prospects rather than rush them up.

When subban was about to enter his prime would you have traded him for a bunch of average to slightly above average pieces?

No not really. But the Habs were in a different place at that point. They absolutely wanted to win now and they did not manage their asset pipeline at all. The team has been mis-managed for 2 decades.

In any case I'm open to adding on this deal, but I totally get why the Isles want to hold onto the player. I still think my deal could turn out to be "better" 5 years down the road, but the Habs would win this deal immediately.

Dude this is a massive low ball offer. There is nothing in this deal that the isles would be interested in swapping Dobson for.

MTL fans crack me up, you aren’t getting Dobson without giving up your 23 1st not FLA in a package for a 23 yr old right handed #1 dman. Just not happening.

I agree here, the MTL 23 1st unprotected might be interesting but put Dobson on a MTL team that is already substantially better than CHI and AZ and I think they end up out of the running for #1 overall.

Doesn’t make sense for the Islanders to move Dobson. Just because you want a player doesn’t mean you have a trade idea that could get him.

Aren't the isles in that exact same win-now window that you describe that the Habs were in??

There is no path to trading for Dobson without including caufield

Yeah but the pick is projected to be late. Barron doesnt have the upside at all of dobson but dobber is alrwady a fringe first pair guy a good #3. Barron might not do anything at the nhl level. Pitlick is not at all a good player he was claimed off waivers twice last season i believe and shot 23% last season. I doubt he shoots half of that this season, and its not just me who thinks that but nhl gms as well considering he only got 1m as a ufa.
Ylonen is a solid prospect but projects to be the one thing we dont need, middle 6 wingers.

What the isles actually need is 1 thing an elite goal scoring winger to play with barzal. The habs have 1 of those in caufield but habs arent moving cole and i doubt isles make a caufield for dobson trade. #1 upside RHDs just dont get moved. Dobson isnt moving unless youre talking about caufield a top 4 RHD and MTLs unprotected 23 1st. Now MTL shouldnt even consider that deal which is why there is no dobson deal to be made.

i would love noah dobson. but the 2023 draft is a big draft. the choice of florida, I keep it. I would rather give logan mailloux. guhle and barron know each other a lot. I understand your trade but it will not happen. Sadly. maybe farrell-mailloux, a first choice and a second choice. there is a hostile offer option too. but in your trade, i keep barron and my draft picks in 2023.
