Kane's made his money.

Only way Kane signs with Buffalo is if he thinks he can add to his legacy by leading his hometown team to glory. And if that's what he wants, it's not outlandish to think he might take a team-friendly contract to help provide the resources that will get him there.

If they're close to being a contender after this season (all it would take would be breakout seasons from two or three of their high-upside prospects), I could see them offering a front-loaded 5x6 to lure him home. He might find that hard to resist.

Minnesota declines. Didn't resign greenway to trade him. Nor brake up their 3rd line

Buffalo is still 3-4 Years out of becoming a contender.

Probably true. After this year, 2-3. Adding Kane could reduce that timeline. Also, if they bring in Kane, they can deal a promising young asset to fill whatever gaps remain.

That's a lot of ifs, but no ridiculous longshots.

Rangers won't have the cap for Olofsson by just giving up picks. Don't know like the Konecky for Olofsson, Byron and Pilut trade, seems to be a bad exchange for the Sabres.

Kane isn't signing for no $6,000,000 per, At least $8,000,000 per.

And Friedman and Marek said don't rule out Kane signing with Detroit next summer. Sounds like interest on both sides.

Detroit's a lot closer to playoff contention than Buffalo and even cup contention. You can't build a team solely on draft picks you need a mix of veteran leadership as well.
