Initial Creation Date: Aug. 22, 2022
Published: Aug. 22, 2022

Description
Bring in Kane chopped twice and get rid of Gardiners contract for future assets.

Not the Canes style and will never happen, but figured I’d see what it looks like.

Arizona to take on Gardiners cap dump and retain cap on Kane for only a 2nd and 3rd seems unlikely. Would probably need to add another pick for that to happen and would probably have to add another pick or a better prospect in the trade with Chicago.

A snowstorm in Hades has a better likelihood than the Canes signing deHaan again.

I wouldn’t be so sure of this - did you think a Dzingel reunion was possible either?

Where is De Haan right now?

Zero Chance the Hawks make this trade. They don't want any of those players and the 2024 1st isn't enough.

A valid argument, and a consideration that was not lost on me. I think the Dzingel exit was a bit different. The fact that he is taking a two-way now wreaks of a bit more desperation. Dehaan apparently was quite bitter about his situation. He chose the Canes as a UFA over several other teams and at a decent cap hit. Now he is still unsigned, so I wonder if he would swallow his pride and come back. I'm not saying he wouldn't be perfect on the lower left side and on the penalty kill. But I bet he'd rather spend a year in Sweden then come back. Would not have a problem being completely wrong on this.

I think you’ll be surprised (and disappointed) by the return on a Kane trade regardless. It’s kind of built into the premise of moving a HOF player who brought Cups to your city. I actually dont think it’s that far off. But, the Canes are probably not the team to pull this off due to the likely draft position of their picks.

It's all predicated on how many teams Kane waives for (I suspect at least 2 or more as I don't see him handcuffing Chicago) and how many teams want him (likely every team). For the arguably the best RW'er in the game and an absolute game changer in the playoffs, the price will be high. Chicago analysts, along with some national ones, are saying it's a 1st plus a very good prospect with a cap hit coming back.
