No risk move like the Stastny deal, can't really get much better then this, unless this contract has a lot of performance bonuses.

They're going to be strong-armed into feeding Kessel games to continue the Iron Man streak.

Likely to make up for the issue of having all their scoring right wingers on injured reserve, and when the team is back to full strength to get someone skilled to contribute in the bottom six. Vegas' depth is pretty dire.

Vegas decided to fight the LTIR curse by signing the guy who hasn't missed a game since 2009

I'm not sure they can give him performance bonuses. The CBA FAQ says he's eligible for a performance bonus if "The player has signed a one-year contract and is over 35 years old." He's only 34, but he'll be 35 before the season starts, so I don't know if that counts.

With all the injury issues they’ve had, I can see why a guy who hasn’t missed a game in over 12 years would appeal to them. I hope they play him and give him a chance to reach 1000 consecutive games. I don’t have the list, but it seems to me that there are a few who made it to 900 but none to 1000. I think he’d already be there if it wasn’t for covid. Even if all their other forwards are healthy, he should be good enough to play on their third line. I guess Stastny set the price.

Good deal for Vegas. I still don't like the team's chances this coming season, but at least this isn't a contract they will have to dump to make cap room.

It doesn't; the 35+ rule applies if (and only if) the player is 35 by July 1 of the year the contract is signed.

At this stage he seems to be more of an assist man instead of a sniper like in his prime

Yeah, that surprised me. Only 8 goals last season but 44 assists. But he scored 20 in only 56 games the year before, so maybe he can play either role depending on who his linemates are.

Is Vegas a playoff team one paper heading into next season? I would say they're borderline.
