LEAFS VILLENEUVE LOOKING LIKE AN INCREDIBLE DRAFT PICK BY DUBAS

Created by: TML_Tika
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 24, 2022
Published: Aug. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
William Villeneuve is a 20 years old and right-shot defenceman whose prospect value has been rising fast over the last year after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL draft and is a Leafs prospect that all hockey fans should keep their eye's on for the 2022-2023 season.

Kyle Dubas and the Toronto Maple Leafs may have hit another home run when they drafted the 6-foot-2 and 180 pound right hand shot defenceman in the fourth round and 122nd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft after he registered 58 points in 64 games in only his second junior season playing for the Saint John Sea Dogs and leading all defenceman in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in points and assists.

Kyle Dubas and the Leafs made a wise move to sign him to a three year entry-level contract after being drafted and he recently scored 8 goals and 46 assists for 56 points during the 2021-2022 season and helped lead his Saint John Sea Dogs to win the recent Memorial Cup.

He has the potential to help the Leafs on defence in the future after some stellar seasons with the Saint John Sea Dogs in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The best way to obtain a high quality defenceman in the NHL is to draft and develope the player and the Leafs under Dubas are brilliantly following this strategy with Liljegren, Sandin, Niemela and now Villeneuve.

Villeneuve is a smart two way defenceman with good size and strong offensive instincts who has worked to round out his game since being drafted by the Leafs when he was considered more of a high-risk, high-reward offence-focussed defenceman and his future upper ceiling will be determined by how well he adjusts to the pace of professional hockey. He is expected to be playing for the Toronto Marlies in the AHL for the 2022-2023 season and continuing to work with the Leafs professional development staff which is considered one of the best in the entire National Hockey League to improve and refine his hockey skills.

At 6'2, 180 pounds, the Maple Leafs want to see Villeneuve add size as he gets ready to take on professional hockey players and the key to his development will be how he responds in defensive situations against skilled players in the AHL, which is considered the best development league in the world.

His knowledge of where to be on the ice at all times is a massive plus for him and his ability to join the rush is a huge asset to his team. He is a right-shot defenceman that can grow with the team and is a prospect that all hockey fans should be keeping a keen eye on for the 2022-2023 season as he is developing into a great defenceman and home run for the Maple Leafs.

You should’ve led with the fact he played with William Dufour last year. That explains his production.

umm... Dubas is good at Drafting (tunnel vision for small players from overseas or USA only) but the Leafs have sucked at development.

Don’t you know? Every dubas move becomes a future hall of gamer. Whether it be a draft pick or signing

Villenueve is 6 foot 2 inches and recent draft picks like Mitten, Knies and Amirov all decent size..........The Leafs have actually been great at developing and improving NHL prospects and players.......Liljegren, Sandin, Robertson, Knies, Steeves, Niemela, Hirvonen, Hyman, Engvall, Grundstrom, Moore, Dermott, Holl.

Race car driver. Jacques Villeneuve. Adds speed to the Leafs. He's Canadian too. He's likely a Habs fan though.

Of the bunch you named only Sandin and Liljegren have significant NHL experience. Robertson has 16 GP in 3 years, Steeves has played 3 NHL games, Niemela and Hirvonen have played 0 and Knies hasn't even signed his ELC. None have exactly developed into NHL talent yet, Sandin and Liljegren are well on their way to being 2nd or 3rd pairing guys but neither are likely to be top pairing guys, kind of like Romanov. The rest of the prospects still have a ways to go before we can say they have developed into NHL talent (although I do think Niemela will). Then you used Hyman, Engvall, Grundstrom, Moore, Dermott and Holl as your NHL quality benchmarks LMAO. Those are a bunch of replacement level players (Hyman excepted). Literally every team has these types of players they have developed, guys like Pezzetta, Del LA Rose, Deslauriers and Evans

Anytime you're bragging about developing Justin Holl and Travis Dermott you've already lost the argument.

Anytime you're bragging about developing Justin Holl and Travis Dermott you've already lost the argument. My brother in Christ. 🤔

I think Justin Holl is a much better defenceman than you are giving him credit........and his development into an NHL defenceman is an incredible story after being virtually benched an entire NHL season by Babcock........ but refusing to give up on his dream and continuing to work and practice during the season and an entire summer to come back and make the Leafs the following season.

Have nothing but respect for this hockey player and wish him all the best in the future.

I refuse to admit exactly how long I looked to see if Villeneuve had any connection to Shattuck St. Mary's but it was -at least- 5 minutes.

I respect that Holl is playing in the NHL. I wasn't good enough to achieve that. But he's a 3rd pair defenseman. He's not Morgan Rielly.
