The title is just a joke. That trade has been suggested a million times despite Girard not being on the market.

I do think Dvorak to the Avs makes a lot of sense. One of the key reasons it makes sense is that his salary fits and allows the defense to remain intact. Moving Girard negates one of the biggest benefits of a Dvorak trade from Colorado's perspective.

The Girard to habs is just the lazy "well hes french so the habs MUST want him" narrative. Acquiring him makes 0 sense for the habs.

The habs already have matheson who is signed long term, Edmundson who is in the running for team captain and then Guhle a blue chip prospect on the lft side and thats befpre you even get to harris norlinder leskinen schueneman and likely once the ncaa season is over struble.

They will already in all likelyhood be pushing a LD to RD to accommodate everyone already.

The habs if they are trading dvorak want a future based return either in picks or RD/G prospects

Sure, a Girard for Dvorak trade is incredibly unlikely, but if we're going by what Avs fans are proposing here, it seems that Colorado isn't going to offer up enough that would convince Montreal to actually trade Dvorak. A Compher based trade makes zero sense to Montreal. A future 1st with Montreal sending something back makes a little bit more sense, but not enough to consider moving him until after the 2023 draft.

I don't disagree with you, but I guess the idea behind Compher would be to flip him at the deadline for an additional asset. With retention, I could see him bringing a 3rd or perhaps even a 2nd.

Montreal has 4 forwards and a goalie on expiring contracts as rental options and they don't have the guys to pump Compher's offensive numbers. One of the reasons they'd move Dvorak now is that they may have too many forwards.
