In the Calgary trade this is pending the fact that everything works out with the Hockey Canada stuff. If proven innocent? I think this trade works. If not well definitely off the table from Calgary's perspective

How so? It makes sense from an Ottawa perspective...

    Dorion has set out to lock up his entire core group. I don't believe Formenton is part of that group. I think they sign and trade him for roughly what they gave Joseph, and flip him to Calgary. Greig is likely good enough to play on the 3rd line with Pinto and Joseph. By start of next season Ottawa likely has;

Chabot, Zub, Tkachuk, Norris, Stutzle, DeBrincat, Joseph, Pinto, Greig, Sanderson, Giroux, Brannstrom & Batherson all on 2+ year contracts. There won't be much money left next season. So this is the season Ottawa really does the heavy lifting in terms of roster structure. The next season or so is chemistry and team building....Hopefully this season we get a round maybe even 2 rounds. Next season is the gung-ho season.

What??? I have him as part of a trade going to Calgary in exchange for Weeger.... Weeger goes to Ottawa, Calgary gets Formenton and Lassi Thomson.

Yea, where does he play for Calgary is what I was saying? We need top line guys. Not middle 6

Huberdeau & Mangiapane are your top LW's which are pretty strong... Probably need another RW, but need an upgrade from Lucic on the 3rd line as well. Dube could likely be a solid 50 point player on your 2nd line. But Coleman would be an expensive $5M 3rd line player.... So guessing he would be your 2nd line RW. If you move from Coleman? I might agree you might hold onto Weeger to land an upgrade on Coleman. But last I heard Calgary is trying to unload Lucic, and LW where Lucic plays is where Calgary is weakest. In any case it's a fair trade but pending on what Treliving is trying to upgrade will determine if the trade works or not

LW is probably going to be
    Huberdueau
    Mangiapane/Toffoli(othet plays 1RW)
    Pelletier
    Lucic(if he stays)

Let's not pretend that until further notice, Formenton is rapidly gaining radioactivity. Nobody is trading anything of note for him right now.

As an Ottawa fan this is a no brainer. Take it and run. We do lose a very good player with world class speed though.

I mentioned this is the post.... This would all be based on the outcome of the trial and a contract being signed....

Flames are looking to compete now so prospects don't have any value when were moving a player who by all accounts seems ready to sign an extension and help this season so this is a no from the Flames.

I just looked at a bunch of proposals involving Ottawa and this one is actually the first one where Ottawa isn't getting bent over

I would do it, Weegar is good and would be extended

Fair enough, until he actually signs however you don't know what his ask is, and if the Flames can even indulge it. You don't even know if he's going to be on your top pairing? Truthfully I'd prefer Ottawa chase Rasmus Andersson.... But he's in my mind Calgary's best defenseman who also happens to be a RD.... Geez even Tanev is solid and would look good with Kylington. Hence why I figure Ottawa and Calgary likely would discuss Weeger. Calgary is thin on the wings, and as Calgary has already proven they appreciate defensive depth and so they should. Thomson is a very high end prospect. The value for Weeger on a 1-yr deal is good in this trade. But 100% if Weeger re-signs then everything is off the table and Ottawa likely looks at an Andersson or Tanev instead.

Thing is if the Flames were to even consider dealing one of Tanev or Andersson (assuming Weegar re-signs) it would most likely be for a winger like Batherson so I feel like any trade between the sens and flames would be off the table by that point.

Yeah Batherson is on too good a contract to move, as he is basically a point per game player making less than $5M, hard to let those guys go. Will see what the seasons brings I guess
