On Trade Deadline day- read explanation or you wont understand

Created by: Fran615
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 27, 2022
Published: Aug. 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is when I go into PURE SPECULATION of course, please allow me.
Just like drafting, predicting the future is always a sure way to fail.

This is anticipating decent productions from the players flipped at the trade deadline to contenders who would draft in the 1st round somewhere around 26-32.

DROUIN: on pace for a 15-20G 25-35A so about 50 points, where he can usually hit. If he stays healthy, which no one can know for sure.

DADONOV: on pace for a 20-25G 25-35A so about 55 points, where he can usually hit. If he stays healthy, which no one can know for sure.

MONAHAN: Biggest speculation of all, let's pretend he is on pace for 25-30G 35-40A so about 60 points. If he stays healthy, which no one can know for sure.

I KNOW - these trades are bad. Got it!

But the Habs would likely tank for the remainder of the season and shoot for a Top-5 pick in the 2023 draft with their own pick.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is for day 40:

- Monahan has left LTIR and in the lineup

- Byron has left LTIR, and straight to waivers where no one picks him up and sent to AHL.

- Price now gets on LTIR; so that it is a IN-SEASON LTIR, so that there will be no swinging come trade deadline (those who know how LTIR works will get it).

- If the Habs are able to have some decent production from Armia and have a team pick him up, that will open up a lot of cap space to take on more cap dumps later on.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was for Day 1:

- Sean Monahan should be put on OFF-season LTIR and removed when he comes back. LTIR is available as long as Monahan doesn't come back before 30 days.

- No one will pick up Byron so sent down to AHL. But he will start also on LTIR in the OFF-SEASON

- Carey Price should only be put there if he starts the season on LTI -- and then put on LTIR. It's complex but there IS a difference . IN SEASON LTIR can be totally taken off the books - not if it is put there before Day 1. So best option is to put Price on Day 1. So Carey Price, contrary to Monahan and Byron, WILL remain on the LTIR all year, so best to put him on there on Day 1 and not before.

- Both Monahan AND Byron will be taken off the LTIR about 1, 2 or 3 months in season. So that will leave the Habs the opportunity to play with retained salaries at the trade deadline, with Dadonov, Monahan and Drouin.

- The ONLY real hope is that someone picks up Mike Hoffman on waivers... although it is not needed right away.

    Always lol

Have you ever posted anything here where people are 100% agreeing?

But yeah, none of my stuff will happen, pretty sure about that.

But Tamp Bay has given 1st round picks for players in the past and I was like "Whaaaaaaaattt?"

IK lol. With Drouin and Dadanov I could c each guy fetching a third. Allen is probably the same. And I don’t c a Monahan bounce back happening cause of his injury history and production over the past 3 years. It could happen and for his sake I hope it does, but I’m a skeptic.

Thank you for your reply. Makes sense. Drouin, Dadonov, Monahan, one of them could collapse, or bounce back, or injure himself. There might be one of those who fetches nothing at all, not even picked up on waivers. Another could fetch a 2nd maybe (the one who bounces back).

    Pure, unsweetened speculation.

But your take is most likely closer to reality.

But it's always cool to imagine a stack of 1st lol.

That's why I add later round picks, but that rarely comes to fruition to fetch the all-precious first.

I was really high on Drouin when he was with Tampa Bay, but I eventually realized that despite all the talent he has that he would never live up to his potential. Maybe he’s healthy next year, but I’m always gonna be disappointed when I watch him because he could’ve been so much better.

No doubt. He had a "killer instinct" in juniors, and very early on... but something happened and he will never reach that ceiling again

1- Absolutely. I didn't know about that rule about salary retainment

2- Ok, sorry, I don't have my magic ball to read the future squinty smile

But yeah, you may be 100% right too. Those players might combine for only one goal and be playing in the KHL next year. No one knows.

The interesting thing is. If those players are all hitting the numbers you speculate they will... How far is this team out of a playoff spot?

Glad I read all the comments before posting, cuz that's exactly what I was going to say. If literally all a team's players exceed expectations, then they likely don't blow it up at the deadline, lol.

Yeah. I am expecting a terrible year from Drouin unfortunately. He was playing in that 3-on-3 tournament along with Suzuki & Anderson and ended up dropping out after not scoring for 2 games. To be clear these were games where the final scores were 13 to 10 and guys like Charles Hudson were getting hat tricks.

I don't think Drouin has an NHL shot anymore after his 2 wrist surgeries. Maybe he'll get stronger with time, but to be honest he's had plenty of time to recover.

Simply try being realistic instead of poking the bear. No team wants cap, especially bad cap. Start by tempering it down to a 5th at least. Hence the quick "shouldn't have to tell you" remarks!!

The Fantasyland I want this to happen but I don't want any backlash CFACGM's are always funny. Good job. 👍

Edit: IIRC weren't you the one who told me Jeff Petry for Edvinsson and a 1st was a fair offer last season? There were so many Petry to Detroit trades on CFACGM.

But that one definitely sticks out for me. My apologies if it wasn't you.
