Allvin pulls off a sneaky three-way

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 27, 2022
Published: Aug. 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Three way trade with ARZ and a contending team (pick one, doesn’t matter for this ACGM). Allvin would need to orchestrate the deal to make sure ARZ knew they were going to get maximum overall return. It looks like this;

VAN gets Chychrun for Miller (50% retained) plus Rathbone to fill the vacant LHD spot. VAN pays an extra 2nd to also send Dickinson to make the cap work for the Canucks.

ARZ then moves Miller to (insert team here) with another 25% of his original salary retained, making his cap hit $1,312,500 for the year. Given that basically any team could afford that cap hit there would be a number of teams that would bid a lot, and the sum return would obviously need to be more than what ARZ would get for just dealing Chychrun on his own.

ARZ gets a haul of futures, Miller gets to play for a contender at 75% retained, and VAN gets a defensive upgrade. Win-win-win?
Trades
ARI
  1. Dickinson, Jason
  2. Miller, J.T. ($2,625,000 retained)
  3. Rathbone, Jack
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (VAN)

Arizona says no. What Canucks fans keep forgetting, yes some cap is an issue, no team is paying alot for a rental.

I've always wondered how to pull off a sneaky 3 way. 🤔

Good thought on the trade. But I don't know if Arizona is willing to trade. Trading 3 years of Chychrun for less than one year Miller and hoping the you get more than what they would get for Chychrun for some time next TDL for Miller.

That has been proven false every year at the deadline. Much lesser rental players than Miller often go for a lot. If Allvin could arrange this deal so a contender gets Miller for a full season at $1.3m, the return would be significant.

It wouldn’t be hope though. Allvin would make sure there was an adequate Miller (75%) return for ARZ lined up before the Yotes agreed to the deal. VAN would do the leg work, plus add Rathbone and the 2nd (and dump Dickinson).

Not the three 1st round picks or prospects Canucks fans keep thinking. Teams like Minnesota under bracket will never give up a 1st, same with Carolina. Canucks fans will keep thinking Teams are that interested in jt Miller but it hasn't happened

There are definitely teams that won’t bite no matter how low the cap hit is because they want to keep their futures. But Miller at $1.3m would be the best value-per-dollar contract in the entire league for one year. There would be a few teams willing to pony up for it.

Maybe like a 1st and prospect. Your still skipping over him being a rental

Miller will likely get the ol' 1st, a prospect, and a young player. And it will be a first from a contender.

Arizona wants a couple firsts and then some.

So long story short forget Dickinson and up that 2nd to a 1st and it probably works

This could actually make a lot of sense imo. Depends entirely on the return for miller of course but it just takes one team that’s willing to pay enough.
