Why do you want Blake Wheeler? He's old, he's expensive, and he's not very good anymore.

I still have yet too hear what makes him a locker room cancer.

Don't mean any attitude, still just curious.

So which is it? LOL! God the trolling that goes on in this site. If its not value for Wheeler... at least say WHY or what would be!

Not enough incentive for Winnipeg to retain that much on Wheeler and take back two bad contacts.

They are when the Jets are retaining that much on by far the best player in the deal.

Winnipeg is essentially paying almost 10 mil for a rental and 4th line plug. So there's nothing in it for Winnipeg.

There have been multiple reports that him and Scheifele bullied Laine for years

Leafs would be paying 8 million for a power play specialist that can’t skate or defend for the life of him

The real question is, and I'm not sure if you're a Leafs of Jets fan, is what is WPG currently trying to accomplish? Are they looking to rebuild? retool? Keep trucking along?

IMO if they tried to move Wheeler it would be for a retool or rebuild. Regardless I'd think they want more futures than roster players. Kerfoot or Engvall don't accomplish anything for WPG, so really TOR is just giving up a first and that's not enough. My guess is they'd want a 1st + good prospect and given that, they'd probably take either Kerfoot or Engall for salary purposes.

??? The Leafs would be paying $4.125 mil over two seasons for the infinitely better player.

Gee, the Jets are paying Lowery 3.25m for 2.2m Engvall's production Kerfoot isn't a bad contract at all.
The advantage to Jets is they could get production of these two Leafs and if wanted traded their expiring contracts at TDL for pick.
Leafs gain no cap advantage with the trade or production value, and give up a first. No, it's bad trade for the Leafs.

Who said I want Wheeler? I think you quoted the wrong person. Lol I’m not a Leaf or Jet fan. If you are trying to think I’d want him on Detroit you are wrong there as well.

In saying that, in what world is he old and not a good player? Just take a look at his last five seasons. 90+ points followed by 5 points fewer than games played in each of the last three seasons.

The advantage is the Leafs get a really good player for 4 125/ yr for two years. While the Jets are stuck paying around 10 mil for a rental and a plug. There just isn't enough compensation going to Winnipeg to justify that retention.

I don't get it. Would rather have Kerfoot and Engvall for a combined 5.75 mil than Wheeler at 4.125 mil?

Who's the plug....Lowry at 3.25m who's production is less than 2.2m Engvall, or 3.5m Kerfoot.? Sorry you are making an in inaccurate statement if talking Engvall.
Leafs would rather have Engvall and Kerfoot at 5.7m for one year, than be cap free than Wheeler at 4.25m and someone at 1.4 else for two years. And expect the Leafs to give up a first too?
The Leafs cap situation is they might have to give Kerfoot away with nothing coming back, but that doesn't mean Wheeler for two years is fit for most teams.

Your math is incorrect. 50 point Kerfoot and 35 point Engvall cost 5.75m. 70 point Wheeler cost 4.125 but then then Leafs have to find a replacement for the second player that they traded,,,which cost cap. So have the Leafs really saved cap or got better in 22/23/.
And expect the Leafs to give up a first rounder too?
I think the bigger issue is that the Leafs don't want Wheeler in 23/24, and can be cap 5.75m if Kerfoot and Engvall leave as UFA next summer.

Cool. I never said it was good for Toronto. Just that Winnipeg can't waste that much cap space on the players they are getting in return.

Oh. That. 🤣
Still don't consider him a locker room Cancer.
Laine on the other hand is known to be a difficult, lazy person. So, maybe the "bullying" was warranted??

Points aren't everything. He is god awful at defense, he's average at setting up plays, he doesn't drive play, and his only really good trait is his shot. He is playing on a line with Scheifele and Ehlers and that certainly helps with point totals. He's not the player he once was and that's fine. But taking him on for two more years at 4 million is a bad idea.

He's obviously not the player he was, but he's still a good hockey player. This argument that playing with better players always makes other players better is a farce IMO. Being able to keep up with players like Scheifele and Ehlers is no easy task. They're both skilled fast players, so you need the hockey sense and stamina to keep up.

Wheeler also brings a competitive physical nature TOR could use.
