Flames Guaranteed Cup

Created by: gmmclee
Team: 2022-23 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 30, 2022
Published: Aug. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Why this team not winning 16 straight playoff games would be the most monumental catastrophy in NHL history:
- Lindholm, Kadri, Backlund, Dvorak, Rooney is the most stacked center set in the NHL.
- Patty Kane is a machine that can turn Huberdeau + Lindholm's elite playmaking into many, many goals.
- Team has youth in Pelletier, a PPG AHL rookie set for a middle 6 role this year, Dillon Dube (who's set to take another huge step in his career), and half of our defense who are all set to take another step in their careers.
- Hanifin, Andersson, Tanev, Kylington, Weegar, Mackey and Zadorov make the most deep defensive core in the NHL. Second in quality to only Colorado.
- As long as Markstrom does not absolutely screw up in the playoffs like he did last year, and plays decently he should have no trouble making light work with whatever gets through the defense. Vladar is also set for a larger role, and Wolf (AHL goalie of the year) will get some games in as well.
- Darryl Sutter is the reigning Jack Adams winner, a defensive minded coach with more help from the Weegar addition.
- Pelletier, Backlund, Rodrigues is a second line with third line minutes.
- Toffoli, Dvorak, Coleman is another second line with fourth line minutes.

We've sold all our future save the franchise tendy and some future second liners, but we should be sure to win the cup.

Montreal's counter offer

3rd + Norlinder for Weegar

You need to give QUALITY to get QUALITY. You are not getting a middle 6 center for crap, sorry to be blunt but we have seen this same kind of thing all day. If this type of trade was going to happen don't you think that it already would have by now?

You severely underestimate Ruzicka (23 yrs old, over point per game in the AHL, with NHL experience) and Montreal's hunger for Slovakian players.

Ruzicka is a point per game AHLer with NHL experienced set to become a second line player. He'll fit in perfectly with Montreal's Slovakian core. Dvorak is a low second line center.

And until the entire top 6 gets injured again, unfortunately our team is cursed.

This team is the Stanley Cup favourite on paper, from past experience we know that the Flames will relocate to become Arizona's second team before we win the cup.

Hurt is just an excuse. Draisaitl beat them on 1 leg last yr.

Montreal is not going to retain over two million a year for 3 years on a young 2/3 center for a 4th and a player that Calgary hasn't signed and is eligible for waivers without establishing themselves in the NHL? That's just idiotic for them.

If Ruzicka is so good then there's no reason for Calgary to even move him. Just use him instead of Dvorak.

Terrible offer for Dvorak. Go shopping elsewhere, we're not giving away players for nothing.

Our current excuse list in Calgary is:
- Every star player was injured
- Markstrom was on LSD
- Coleman was shoved into the puck

Past excuses include:
- Geoff Ward is the worst coach in the NHL
- Refs hate Albertan teams
- The team simply refuses to play well

Excuses you likely will hear in the future are:
- Our stars like Monahan and Valimaki got ruined by injuries
- Bettman will quit his job before he allows a Canadian team to win the cup
- Markstrom was on LSD

Not enough for kane. Lucic cancels out one of the firsts so you're giving a bottom 6 d and 2 2nds because kane isn't resigning here. Most expensive 4th line in the league, you get 0 production from toffoli playing him there. Edmonton still outscores you and you lose the battle of alberta in regular season and playoffs.

Retention only for one year (like you did for Toffoli), you can even have him back after this season, I'll add that to future considerations

This is a win *now* team because our contracts are going to eat us up very soon, we have this one season to do well, so we're willing to sacrifice a future second line center for a current middle six guy. That's how teams win cups.

Never thought I would see the day where somebody called Dvorak "quality". There is nothing great about him. He isn't a quality player. He is a solid third liner at best. No 20 goal seasons, no 40 point seasons. He is just an overpriced third liner.

A second and fourth is likely more than you will get for Dvorak. Retention is a lot but Dvorak isn't anything special. Just because Bergevin overpayed for him, doesnt mean other teams will.

A healthy Valimaki is a current bottom 6 dman, who is sure to become a top 4 in his prime. Very cheap cap hit as it stands. We just have no room for him because our defense is so stacked.

The only way Edmonton outscores us with this lineup is if Markstrom screws up again. At the deadline Lucic's cap hit is hardly a concern, and Kane is not resigning in Chicago either, so really it's a first, a second and a future top 4 dman for some time with Patrick Kane.

Doesn't mean we're giving away players, if you don't want to pay for him then shop elsewhere. Obviously someone is interested in him otherwise I wouldn't see endless trash offers for Dvo all over this site.

Yeah ok. You are just try to troll and provoke an argument. Have fun with your 3C of Dickenson, I am sure he will take you all the way to the cup!

You can't retain for one year. Montreal didn't retain on Toffoli, they took Pitlick's contract. You also don't rent players like that. If Montreal's trading Dvorak, they're not taking him back.

Ruzicka needs to be an NHLer now, or he's just going to get claimed off of waivers.

This just doesn't make any sense for Montreal.

Miller, Pettersson, Horvat, Lazar. I am not concerned about our center depth. Perhaps doing some research before you speak. you look like a fool trying to argue

Dude looked at the Canucks with 3 centres that each scored 30 goals and said centre depth was the problem 😂😂😂

I mean you're rotating through 4 top 4 dmen, on a majority of teams your top d men is 3rd best. Weegar is a solid addition but another top 4 dman. His addition won't stop edmonton from slicing through like they did last year. And you can blame marky all you want but edmonton had terrible goaltending as well and worse d and you still lost 4 straight. I don't see anything changing form that this year. These guys aren't good enough to stop their offense.

You're going to have to pay to get anyone to take lucic anyway you slice it. This offer gets beat by 29 other teams. you're gonna have to add a top prospect if you want to be serious about them trading him to you.

I'd much rather have Ruzicka over Dvorak and don't want Rodrigues at all

Better to spend those kinds of assets going after a Young Player, like Pastrnak, Schmaltz, Keller or J.Bratt than for 1 year of Patrick Kane, otherwise Tarasenko, Marchessault, Garland or Bjorkstrand should be much cheaper to acquire
