Depth Dreams

Created by: caulisauce
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 31, 2022
Published: Aug. 31, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ottawa can push for wildcard spot with a missing offensive d in Barrie, flip pick for Soucy.
Buffalo's LW depth is horrendous, so will be happy to take a pick and bolster with Foegele

Gagner - Already working out in Oilers gear
Rodrigues - Can pay more if need be to lock in with cap space now available, promise of McJesus/Drai/Cup run. Excellent off the rush, so may surprise playing with McD
DeKeyser - History with Holland

Bit of depth protection if Holloway/Broberg falter.

Gives flexibility with lines to shift around, and if Holloway lives up, gives a solid checking 3rd line w/ 4th line that can potentially pitch in 30pts each.

Cap space to go after Kane or other UFA at deadline

Careful trying to send foegele to buffalo... I got a notice of being reported for that. Buffalo fans are really against looking at ways to improve the team.
Barrie soucy swap I can't see it being anything other than a significant downgrade yes he might be a better defender but can't just look at it like that oilers defensive strengths come from forward support which we have tons of with Hyman Jesse yamo nuge Kane all the forwards shown that under woodcroft but when they cause the turn overs we need d that can move the puck up ice quickly and there is no d on the team that is as good as Barrie at quick good passes.

If Soucy at 50% retained cost the same to acquire as Tyson Barrie, why in a million years would Ottawa take Barrie? He's a talented point producer, but he's a disaster defensively and he's an OFD who doesn't drive play. He's exactly the kind of player who won't help Ottawa. They have a PP1 guy in Chabot, and plenty of young Dmen with the talent to run a PP2 (Sanderson, Brannstrom, even Thomson). They need defensive stability. Barrie also has term on his deal, which makes him even less appealing to a Sens team heading into a cap crunch next summer.

Sens would just do that Soucy deal. He's way more of what Ottawa needs than Barrie.

You seriously need to let it go about Foegele somehow improving Buffalo. The guys a bottom 6 wing on the Oilers and would be a bottom 6 wing on any team in the league, it's just the type of player he is. He's not supplanting any of Skinner, Tuch, Olofsson, or Okposo. You then have Quinn and Peterka who likely slot into the 3rd line to start but could easily push their way into the top 6. That leaves Asplund (better defensively) and one of Mittelstadt or Krebs slotting in at the wing as well.

The only way he would fit onto their roster would be if they choose to play Peterka in Rochester and slot Foegele in over someone like Hinostroza who was similar in production but wasn't as physical. I don't dislike that idea, but management has already committed to Hino for another season. I'm not even counting Bjork because if he never sees another game as a Sabre it will still be too soon.

The Sabres have 0 need for Foegele and have a plethora of wingers to the point where Sabres fans have developed Olofsson derangement syndrome, trading Olofsson for literally anything. Foegele supplants Bjork, who is the Sabres 15th forward, so no, they dont need him and no, the sabres do not lack depth at wing

I just tried to give the poster a heads up that buffalo fans are clearly very passionate about having a loosing team might get reported for offering foegele cause I did. I'm really really really not interested in having this endless discussion so just agree to disagree.

You literally brought it up. Definitely not being toxic at all.
Sabres fans have outlined pretty clearly with nothing but facts why foegle does nothing for the sabres.

That's a no from Ottawa on Barrie. Oilers would have to sweeten the deal for Ottawa to take Barrie. He's not worth a 2nd round pick.

There should really be some kind of March of dimes campaign for them.

I just brought up that it's a bad idea to send him to buffalo because it will result in alot of needless debates and will be running the risk of being reported if even try to discuss it which I will not waste time doing did enough of that.
