And don't say, "Cap space is expensive." This isn't a cap dump by Minnesota, because Dmitry Kulikov wasn't overpaid.

That's why they were able to trade him straight up for future considerations without having to throw in other assets.

I'd still call it a dump because Minnesota got nothing out of the trade other than cap space, but if your definition of a cap dump is paying somebody to take a bad contract off your hands, then I guess this isn't a dump.

i wonder if they're going after someone with the cap space they have.

would be funny if they sign rodrigues to a 5 mill deal for like eight years

lol you got me with that one. There's a bidding war going on with him apparently. He had nice plays vs the Rangers.. but 5 for 8 would be laughable. Will ol billy bags get his boy?!

Wait a second, Minn had to leave space for Parise and Suter, that's 12.743588 off of 82.5 and they still have 5.738 mill in Cap Space.... Who is Mr Guerin chasing with 5.7 mil in Cap Space?

Good question. Why else would they get rid of a good player with a reasonable cap hit when they’re already a few million under the cap? The only other reason I can think of is if they have an internal cap, but I don’t think that’s the case in Minnesota.

It seems difficult to believe that they now have almost $6M in cap space when they appeared to be in cap hell just a couple of months ago. It almost looks like they could have kept Fiala after all.

Fair trade. MIN clears cap and can play Addison; ANA gets an actually decent defenseman without having to pay anything.

It's interesting to me how much Kulikov seems to have turned it around since his days in Winnipeg where he was one of the worst defenseman in the league. Good deal for Anaheim to grab a solid bottom pair guy for nothing.

I would define a cap dump as moving a bad deal for nothing / less than nothing.
This, this is just a bad deal.

How did Future Considerations end up in Anaheim. I thought he got traded to Vegas.

He’s been traded 14 times this year alone frown

I wonder if Minny is clearing room for Kane as rn they can take him at 50% ret and have the assets to make it happen

And unlike most other contenders no need for a third team to be involved which could be a huge advantage

Question is does Kane want to go there

If not then my guess is they go get Rodrigues

In April of last year, the New Jersey Devils traded Kulikov for a 4th round pick that could have easily turned into a 3rd round pick.

Today, the Minnesota Wild gave him away for free.

That tells me that depth players have much more value at the TDL than in the offseason. And cap space is more valuable during the off-season.

Anaheim wins the trade.

I'm late, but it's b/c Kulikov was still not fully recovered from that scary back injury. He suffered it in 2016 and wasn't fully healed until 2019.
