I think Martinez has negative value due to his injury history. I’m not sure Karlsson has positive value either tbh. And I doubt Yzerman would prefer Karlsson to Copp at this point.

I wouldn’t say negative just like Bailey or kerfoot don’t have negative value imo
Just the teams they are on need cap and in baileys and Martinez’s case didn’t have great years so there values less
But I do agree Veg won’t get something for him they’d have to give to get rid of him imo

I wouldn’t put Kerfoot in the same category as Martinez and Bailey. Also if you want to compare Martinez to Bailey you have to remember Bailey is very durable. Probably cause of how he plays the game lol.

I honestly probably wouldn't take Karlsson for free. Red Wings have Copp as a much better 2C. Karlsson is almost 30 and his contract is not good when he has been steadily declining every year. By the time Detroit is good this will be a major hindrance on the team.

EDIT: Just saw the year this trade would happen and it further helps my point as by this time I think his play will be majorly declined. He definitely isn't worth this much if they had to give Paches away for free

Eh, his injury history is a little overblown. He had issues last season because of a skate to the face and the resulting recovery (so not a chronic injury), played 53/56 games in the COVID season, and missed 4 weeks in 2019-20 with a wrist injury. Not saying the guy is a Phil Kessel-level iron man, but he's not made of glass either - he made it through 19 games in the 2021 playoffs on a broken foot (that was the 3 games missed at the end of the year).
