MTL arent trading Wideman vs Holl and Gogolev so nice try
If we acquire Holl it's for a pick and the reason it's to keep Barron in the AHL

Montreal has cap flexibility, but they don't have that much cap flexibility. I think they would want their retention slots for the deadline, they'd need a future from Toronto for this to make sense. Kerfoot holds limited value for them and there are easier ways to get a veteran D.

If Montreal is acquiring Holl its for future considerations at most (a la the Kulikov trade).

Kerfoot and Holl are ok but in this environment, that deal is doing the Leafs a favour on two parts, and also giving retention on Dadonov.

It wouldnt be the end of the world for the Habs but they have no reason to do it besides needing a RHD which they can simply get off waivers with the 1st waiver priority til November 1st.
I can see guys like Barrie in Edmonton and Chad Ruhwedel in Pittsburgh, on waivers, at the end of training camp with the cap considerations.

They'll need another RHD unless Joel plays on his off side as he did in St Louis. I can see them finding a waiver claim though as Hughes refuses to give up picks and dumping Dadonov on retention is giving up an easy pick at the TDL
