Garland

Created by: Richard88
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 3, 2022
Published: Sep. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With Vancouver re-signing Miller it could mean Garland gets traded at some point.

If Rantanen can hold down 2C then a RHS forward with good 5v5 production like Garland would be a nice fit.

That said you'd probably have to move Compher out to make it work capwise this season.
Trades
VAN
  1. Olausson, Oskar
  2. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Not sure on Garlands value, mostly just playing around to see if it would work cap-wise. A move for him is also based on Rantanen at 2C

i wouldnt go any higher. already heading towards overpay territory. a 2nd or 2024 1st instead of the 2023 1st makes more sense.

Avs will need to spend ~$5m on a 2C regardless so that's already factored in, just that in this scenario it's Rantanen at 2C and a forward at RW. Also Toews/Girard gets moved in 2023 for futures as the D is going to be too expensive any way you slice it. EJ and JTC hit UFA.

Considering MacKinnon apparently really hates this guy going, rumour it goes back to Shattuck-Saint Mary days....probobably isnt the ideal target to trade for

Weird, Mack has been quick to return Garland's gear. Not on Mack that Garland can't catch, lol.

That’s probably why, not an athlete like mack, he was disgusted with his ability to catch

Yeah considering teams give away wingers that score 50pts to get cap compliant, see Bjorkstrand and a Pacciorety, giving up the equivalent of 2 1st round picks for a small winger that doesn’t PK and MacK supposedly hates is a good way to close the Cup window a lot faster. Bad bad move.

Yeah I wouldn’t trade more than a second for Garland tbh. I’m not even willing to include prospects in the deal at this point based on this off-seasons moves.

Garland isn't getting more than Bjork who is a far far better player. If Van could have gotten anything in the world for him they would have moved him by now.

Also COL doesnt need wingers nor do they want to bring on his cap hit.

Bjork is a bottom 6 player. Garland produces at an elite rate at 5v5 😆. Quite a foolish foolish statement by you. I'll give you a second to reconsider that claim and bring about any evidence to back it up.

Garland was better than Bjorkstrand last season, Bjorkstrand had the edge in the 20-21 season

I thought he was talking about Anders Bjork and not Bjorkstrand. Even still, completely different circumstances that people keep ignoring.

Oliver Bjorkstrand fam, Patches as well. Sorry for assuming you would be able to infer that based on the context, how foolish of me

Well given the fact there is literally a guy with the name Bjork, it obviously was confusing. Either way, Bjorkstrand is not "far far better" than Garland, and they are in completely different circumstances. Patches and Bjorkstrand were sold low because their teams couldn't afford to keep them and were pushed to move them out. The Canucks are not in that position. We have under the cap with a full 23 man roster

As mentioned in the trade comments I didn't focus on the value but rather just wanted to see how it would look cap-wise. I also didn't want a bunch of "that's a lowball!" replies, so I went with that just for simplicity, also since Colorado don't have any 2nd's.
