Cap needs to be McAfeed

Description
Another Swede from the Yotes.. why not?!!

Soderstrom is unlikely to be a top pair D and his development looks to be in the realm of a maybe top4, with offensive instincts, that needs to be sheltered.

Arizona would jump at 2 top picks for him, and the Canucks are desperate for a cost effective top4 D even with Soderstrom as a maybe, it's a risk, that they need to take without much available elsewhere, and their window shortening in the JT Miller/Hughes/Petey primes under low cap numbers.
Especially, if they can dump cap with Horvat to sign, and a few undesirables cap hits like Pearson and Myers in 2023.

Arizona isn’t jumping at a first 3 years from now for their best RHD in their system

Soderstrom shouldnt be counted as their best in future years. If the 2023 draft is loaded with centers then 2024 draft is certainly loaded with D. a 2nd round pick there, should find you the same kind of player as a Soderstrom. Not to mention, the Habs found Lane Hutson in the 2023 2nd round whom does the same things Soderstrom does but better! They found Lamoureux late in the 1st and probably would have been available in the 2nd in a "weaker" draft. Lamoureux has a lot of things to like in a top 4 D. Between Lamoureux and Soderstrom, I'd put them both on the same level at this moment. The difference being that the Yotes can wait on potential but the Canucks CAN NOT WAIT. That is why this trade makes sense.

Remove söderstrom from the system and you have nothing coming for at least 3 years, if not longer. Soda isn’t going to be a top pairing defender, but he’s going to be a really good 2nd pair guy, and that’s worth a lot more than a 25 1st and a 24 2nd. A 24 2nd doesn’t get them kiviharju, so there’s no point to this trade. It’s how you end up in a rebuild until 2030

Tell that to the Blackhawks after trading Dach whom was their best center prospect. Soderstrom clearly isnt going to be a stud in all likehood, Yotes management shouldnt fall in love with such a question mark when they can get multiple assets same as the Hawks did for Dach.

I dont think the Yotes care about being competitive as much as entertaining otherwise they wouldnt have passed over Shane Wright for Cooley. Playing in that embarrassment of an NHL arena says everything.
