underdogs overlooked

Created by: ChevelsDayOff
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 3, 2022
Published: Sep. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
offseason coming to an end and we’re all excited for a new season. im optimistic that players are gonna come back hungry and will buy into bones’ systems. people have already written off the jets but the talent here is undeniable and if they’re organized/have some bouncebacks i think they could make a run.
-im hoping lines look something like this to start, with players that actually compliment each other. i also want to try heinola on the top pairing to see how he fares with jomo playing on his offside
-i dont want to pay more than a fifth for kerfoot seeing as toronto needs to shed cap and still has to sign sandin. only thing is idk how seriously dubas wants to trade him and if winnipeg is on his M-NTC
-regardless, getting a player like kerfoot makes our third line actually have a chance to score and improves our fourth line so they wont have to play only like 6 minutes a night.
-otherwise the kids like gus bus are gonna have to play

lemme know what you think

why not? essentially can get him for free and he slots in the middle 6 which is what the jets need

I like this idea, I would try the lines a little different though, with Connor/Dubois/Appleton, kerfoot/scheifele/wheeler, ehlers/barron/perfetti and harkins/Lowry/gagner. Should be able to roll 4 that way. Hoping some kids force there way into top 6 and some tough decisions.

Jets need to dump Chevy, Wheeler, and Scheifele. Then improve the Right wing and Right D…Until then it’s just wasted time and money, and Kerfoot is not an improvement… he’s a cap dump… there’s a reason we could get him for free

You are pretty spot on. Only thing that I would do is swap Perfetti and Gustafsson.

Perfetti played well while with Connor and Dubois. Gus has a very good two-way game that Bones will definitely love.

2018 was proof of concept we can do well in playoffs with this core so im fine with them going in until 2024 when all the big contracts expire, just a matter of getting the right complimentary pieces. kerfoot, while a cap dump, is still a good player that is very much an improvement on any of our other options at 3c. playing lowry means that line wont score and our fourth line would be unproven

Then take him him for free. He’s expiring and Winnipeg needs some help in their bottom six.

i like these lines as well, just concerned about centre depth if injuries arise. if the kids play well itll be a good season

jets actually have some cap to spare and kerfoot would definitely be serviceable in that role. i dont like helping toronto either lol but this move makes a lot of sense at a low price

Kids and the guys on the 2 years or less term, basically jets contract years, and decision times. Hopefully make all decisions tough on jets.

I agree about Lowry being a drag on the 3rd line but the 2018 team had a WAY better defense then what the Jets have now, they could maybe win a round with the defense they have now but that's it, they won't be going on any playoff run with a top D pair of Morrissey/DeMelo or Morrissey/Heinola.

Kerfoot is pretty much the best option at the moment it looks like, and dirt cheap if the Jets get him for like a 3rd to 5th.
It's an expiring contract and the Jets have cap space, so not sure what you think the downside is actually.

i feel like if the sharks only got a 4th for hill (helping divisional rival, vegas desperate for a goalie and no pressure on the sharks to deal him) then the leafs wont get much better when they need to clear cap before season starts

What else do you pay for a 3.5 mill, 750K salary player that scored 50 points, can play on any line, and in any situation, any forward position. Oh right a 5th. Lol I’m the troll.

kerfoot is a decent player for sure but toronto needs to shed salary somewhere, plus hes just a rental this year. hes a good depth player but in a flat cap, hes not worth nearly that much. youd get more for him closer to the deadline

Then they should stop trying to dump him on every team in every trade and keep him

We don’t need him or want him.. simple really.
Just because leafs fans want to dump him doesn’t mean others are obligated to take him.

no one is saying the jets are obligated or need kerfoot. but toronto needs to shed cap and the jets do need bottom 6 help so it is a natural fit. thats why youre seeing it posted so much lately. the fun part is discussing the price and where he’d go. im curious *why* you dont think the jets should trade for him, because its not like hes a bad player

Yes Leafs do need to shed cap but they don’t NEED to trade Kerfoot.

kerfoot easily makes the most sense from my understanding. theyre not as likely to trade holl since theyd lose another RHD and the market for depth defensemen is also unfavourable (i know kulikov is a LHD but he still only returned futures lol). no one else expendable on toronto makes enough to get them compliant. ill be very interested in seeing what dubas does before season starts
