Working toward contention

Created by: JackSC87

Initial Creation Date: Sep. 3, 2022
Published: Sep. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let's pretend that Kuzmenko performs fairly well and that Boeser sees a slight improvement from last season. Unfortunately Hoglander doesn't seem to fit into this winger scheme unless he has a massive breakout this upcoming season.

what is going on here? Luke Schenn is good but not good enough to get a 200k raise at 33 years old and Dermott will be getting the raise instead. I'm not a penguins fan but I'm sure they wouldn't do that trade at all by trading their picks away for a older player as they already have the oldest team in the league.

Well this is a 600k raise for Schenn, not 200k. While yes the raise may be a bit more than what most would expect, I feel like it's not impossible considering how much interest other teams *allegedly* had in him at the deadline. As far as your second point goes, the Penguins trading a 3rd and a future 4th for probable rental who could help them win now is exactly what you want on ONE of the oldest teams (they are 4th oldest not 1st) in the league who will likely be out of contention within 5 years.

Not trading Hoglander for that. I’d trade him for a similarly aged RHD that’s shown top 4 potential, not two 3rds and an unneeded LHD

Alexeyev's stock has also dropped in recent months
