If Horvat wants to remain a Canuck, he will.
1. Canucks have $14 million in cap space for next year, with Horvat being the lone notable to sign (Hoglander get a mention, ok, more a foot note).
2. Given the contracts signed this year, comparable are:
Tage Thompson (term at just over 7 million per)
Nazem Kadri (term at $7 million per)
JT Miller (term at $8 million per).
Horvat's game and production are closer to that of Kadri. Thompson had one good year, and if that holds, he fits the comparison.
3. Horvat is a leader. Yes, you pay for that.
4. Given these facts, Horvat, I beleive gets term at $7.5-8 million a year.
Which leaves the Canucks $6 million to round out the roster.
No reason for them.to part ways unless that is what Horvat wants.
