Avs reject because the idea of a Cale and Romaine pairing is just too good... But in all seriousness, Avs accept (imo).

He's got more value to the Habs than either of those trades. What other teams value him as is kind of irrelevant.

half retained for 3 years is minimum a first. cap space is so expensive right now.

In the current market, not much. Hughes has to be savvy and wait until the cap increases to get a good return.

Taking on Dvorak should be worth a 1st. Cap space is more expensive(for the Avs) next season. /s

In all seriousness, for Dvorak to fit on the avs(beyond this season) there would have to be heavy retention. JTC would be moved next summer if he wasnt a ufa, so I would guess his cap has to fall below 3m if 3.5 is too expensive. Problem with being the best is you can't pay for mediocrity and stay at the top.

Unless you're sending him to Laval, the other teams value of him matters. It takes two to make a deal.

This is the best Dvorak take I've seen to date.

well im not saying he should.go to the avs, but to trade him half retained, a first would be involved for the habs to trade him. if not, i dont think they would entertain the value of trading him with retention.

Right now, not much value. Not because he isn't worth it but because so few teams have cap space and the pressure to add a player like Dvorak right now. If Hughes is smart, he'll hold on to Dvorak till a few weeks in when injuries and player performances are in. By then he could be worth a lot more than the probable 3rd rounder he'd get right now.

Exactly. If you're moving a player, then there has to be a perceived benefit to moving them. There's no reason Montreal would move move Dvorak with retention for not that much. They don't need the cap space, they aren't getting much that helps them in the long run, Dvorak is still young and plays an important position, and there's not a player on the roster who's game improved more once Ducharme was fired. If the choice is Dvorak or either of those returns, its a pretty obvious Dvorak is better for Montreal. Even if they were willing to move him (which they reportedly are).

Look at Max Pacioretty, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Connor Brown returns.

Now imagine Dvorak's value

There's a reason none of the Dvoraks, Drouins, Hoffmans, Armias, Andersons, Dadonovs, Byrons and Gallaghers have been traded

It would look bad/weird to see a rebuilding team trade assets to dump contracts

Dvorak is just not good. MTL paid for potential and got burned. He’s a 3C making $4.5M, he’s proven on 2 bad teams he can’t be a 2C. I seriously question if he is more valuable than Compher.

I disagree.

He was producing at O'Reilly, Point, Malkin, Norris, Trocheck even-strength rates last season on the lowest-scoring team in the league. He looks like a guy on the verge of breaking out but is always held back by external circumstances.

C’mon he’s 26, has been in the league 6 years, been on 2 teams, averaged 16:39 TOI for his career and has never scored 40pts. On top of that he gets crushed 5v5 in shot metrics. Has averaged over 2 minutes of PP per game he’s played. If the guy was going to be a top 6 player he would have done it by now at some point it stops being about the externals around a player and becomes that’s just what the player is.

If we didn't sign Trocheck, Rangers would probably take that.

Dvorak isn't all that much of an improvement on JTC. He's worth roughly a third to most ppl outside of cap friendly. Maybe a second at a push.

Dvorak isnt worth trading in this market. Teams dont have money to take his cap hit. Habs have him for 3 years. He's 26. There's no rush to trade him as they have the cap space and a need at center.

Thanks for all the activity. What I gather is: Dvo is a good player, and has value, but with this year's cap, his value is lower than it would normally be. Some radicals still saying he ain't worth crap, but rn he seems the best trade bait for the Habs.
