I get Edmonton is sort of becoming the place for 2nd chances but Virtanen seems like a ****ty teammate as well as a predator

Why do the HABS send a pick for Barrie. Flames sent a 1st rd pick for a cap dump. I would expect at least a 2nd rd pick with Tyson going to the Habs for futures

I see 0 reason for Milano to sign for 3rd line minutes when he is a Top 6 guy who is highly underrated

Because Barrie isn't a cap dump. He has value

If you're sending us Barrie, you're taking Hoffman. No exceptions.

Ken Holland has already stated that he plans on running the team with a 21 or 22 man roster, you've got a 24 man roster here

I don't get why Barrie is valued so low on this site. We seen for countless years right shot puck movers are a premium position and it may shock some people but Barrie is a really good right shot puck mover certainly worth more than soucy why does he fetch a 2nd and prospect?

Because he isn't great defensively, is 31 years old, and carries a $4.5M cap hit

He led all d in points just two years ago and shown no signs of slowing down... Last I checked players who produce are worth more than players that don't... 4.5 million is more than fair for what he provides. It's actually less than he was offered the year before in free agency..

And he's still not good defensively, so he needs to play a sheltered role. D men who produce points but aren't that good defensively are not highly valued given they are one dimensional which is why he's isn't paid higher or highly sought after

He isn't paid higher because he wanted to stay in Edmonton and that's all they could give him. When he was a Ufa he was offered 6+ with limited term. Just doesn't make much sense to only value players based on faults and not look at what they do provide. Ya he's not the strongest defender but is one of the better puck movers. Calling one dimensional or suggesting he needs ro be sheltered is very dramatic.

His closest comp just signed for $7M. Barrie's contract adds to his value.

The reason why you trade him is due to cap issues so ultimately he's a cap dump and since not many teams who can afford him have any interest in picking up his contract you'll have to pay someone to take him or make a trade bad contract for a bad contract hoffman for barrie for example

He's a turnover machine who can't defend and gets points for offensive powerhouse oilers, team simply don't want his cap hit at the moment

Outside of Connor and Leon or any ELC contracts everyone is a cap dump in Edmonton..... Makes no sense but common trend all offseason.

Dramatically overblown he cant defend.... Turn over machine? Probably does more than most but he's also moving the puck faster and more frequently than most crap happens gets passes threw far more often then not which is why he's been a very consistent strong producer his entire career. Dating back before he joined Edmonton.

He had 43 giveaways this past season and only 14 takeaways....he's not a good defender and turns the puck over a lot...he's one dimensional

Wrong, because you are only looking at points meanwhile dismissing he's 31, had 43 giveaways this past season and only 14 takeaways. He's not a good defender and turns the puck over a lot. For $4.5M, not many teams want a one dimensional player and one who although put up 41 points, more then half of that was on the PP.

So Sean Monahan had no value with his cap dump, I guess that is why the HABS got a 1st rd, (Monahan NO Value). Seriously!!

Barrie's giveaway rate at 5v5 was just 2.02/60, which is pretty good for a guy who handles the puck so much. Petry's was 4.83, Wideman was 4.19. In fact, the best Canadiens defenseman last year was Kulak, who at 2.56 still gave away the puck more than Barrie. You guys are just reinforcing the stereotype the Habs fans are clueless idiots. tears of joy

SHOCKING A LAST PLACE TEAM WAS HORRIBLE ?!?!? IMPOSSIBLE

I don't need you to tell me numbers from last season i watched them and saw how there was no system in place under duchareme and they didn't know how to get out of situation with or without teammates support

So he scores over half his points on the PP and gives up the puck a lot on the PP...that's encouraging! laugh

Only 1.5 giveaways/60 at 5v4, which is a lot better than Klingberg at 3.35, Fox at 3.51 and Ekblad at 3.80 and McAvoy at 2.30. Letang had 3.07 and Hieskanen 3.93... and all these guys get paid much, much more than Barrie. Of these guys, only Fox and Ekblad posted greater P/60 at 5v4, showing just how good a deal Barrie's $4.5M contract is. Oh, and he's top-20 in 5v5 scoring over the past 3 years too. Positive GF% Rel in 8 of his past 9, his on-ice goal differential at 5v5 in the past 2 years was 108-95 (+13), and in the playoffs he posted 16-9 goals.

    So you lose... again.
