Calgary does not have the cap space to make that work. They’d probably do it for it Valimaki. Jets would be better option for pick. Minny too. Tough to move him with ERod still avail via free agency.

No reason to let Nosek go.

I don’t think Reilly is tradable in this market. See Kulikov, and Reilly has term making it even harder.

Pens have nine dmen under contract with only one being waiver exempt, we're over the cap and need to send two players down just to be cap compliant.

The trade value is more than fair though and if the Pens needed him I'd make the deal.

Reilly isn't a fit for the Pens, but I think you'd find a taker for a 4th if someone needed to a mid-pairing LHD.

Problem is few do. Still a few options available in feee agency that would be cheaper and does not cost a pick. Plus teams know Boston has to do something. Reilly normal value is 3rd/4th, under the current circumstances…probably nothing. If Bjorkstrand went for 3rd and 4th in a salary reduction move what does Reilly go for? Ducks were their best option but they just traded for Kulikov giving up nothing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We just got Kulikov for free, we aren’t spending a 2nd on Grzelcyk

Yeah, the market is all effed up because of the flat cap. Fingers crossed that the 23/24 season will see a real increase in the cap.

The thing is that you usually try to make the team better, not worse like here. $8M hanging for absolutely nothing.

the 8M hanging is to pay the bonuses to Bergy and DK this season so they don't carry over to next seasons cap. also need to prepare to provide sway, zacha and pasta new contracts.

Cap space accrue throughout the season so they will have much more than $8M at the end of the season if they have $8M in cap space at some point in the season. Most importantly, they need to maximize this year's team and give the best chance to win. Icing a wild card just to avoid overages next year is a waste. Put the best team this year and then take care of the overages next season when they won't be a contender. They will have enough money for Pastrnak, Zacha and Swayman.
