Was this a good signing?

I wish there was an okay or fair option. I think Ottawa took a big gamble on upside. I think it's a fair gamble but there is risk. He's projecting well and to be worth this, but he hasn't been there yet

Dorion really doing a "Make it or break it" off season. I liked the acquisitions of Giroux, Debrincat, and Talbot. but maybe wait and see if this team can actually pull it together before doling out all these long term deals to guys like Stutzle and Norris.... lots of risk

Jeez, this was higher than I was expecting... but if he continues his growth... this will be a great deal. He was 79-22-36-58 last season... so 8M for someone looking to be a ppg... seems solid... but who knows... he can be better than that when you consider the additions of DeBrincat and Giroux. Definite risk... but seems like a gamble that may be worth taking. With the cap likely to explode soon, this can be a steal in the future.

This is insane, kid hasnt proven himself to be that level of player yet.. Also cant stand the diving + embellishment from this player. Too much risk for me, voted no.

I love Timmy - this is a BOLD play. Love to see the aggressiveness from Ottawa but this is a bold move.

Hughes deal 2.0. Everyone will hate it until it looks like a steal a year later.

we don't even know if the hughes deal is a steal yet or not...

His line was not so good at the end of the year (and they got better when he was taken off the line)

Its a Gamble that could pay off well or blow up in their faces

In general unless its a guy like McDavid, Matthews, Marner, Draisaitl, Barkov, etc not a super big fan of early extensions

It's interesting because Ottawa probably wanted to lock him up before his point totals could explode this year with most of their core entering their prime and some great new additions. In a sense, Ottawa is betting on Stutzle breaking out this year, while Stutzle bet against himself (or decided the offer was good enough).

Time for you to love the Erik Karlsson trade for 8 more years (Stutzle and Norris)

Nylander got $6,900,000 after 61 + 61 point seasons and people still like to call him "massively overpaid".
Marner got $10,800,000 after 70 + 94 point seasons and people call it the "worst contract in the league".

Then after zero salary cap growth:

Norris gets $8,000,000 after 35 + 55 point seasons?
Stutzle gets $8,400,000 after 29 + 58 point seasons?
Chabot gets $8,000,000 after 25 + 55 point seasons?
Tkachuk gets $8,200,000 after 44 + 45 point seasons?

And everyone's acting like Dorion is getting great value?

DeBrincat has been a 40G / 80P player for years.

He's gonna get $13,000,000 at this rate.

OH THANK GOD T.J. MILLER SIGNED BEFORE THIS DEAL GOT MADE!!!

He hasn't proven he's worth this much money and if last season is his ceiling, then this deal will age very poorly.

Yeah getting Stützle done this year makes it a W. There's basically no shot you're paying him less than this if you let him go into this season as an RFA. A full season of him down the middle with two 1st liners on his wing is uncharted territory for him, and he was already so sick to end last year (like 30 pts in 26 games or whatever it was).

Why in the world would a 3rd overall pick’s second year in the league on a bad team in his D+2 season be his ceiling?? That premise makes zero sense…

I would say at least 11m if he keeps his production up. Why do you sound surprised?

Here's the issue, if he does get there this season you still have to pay out his projection from there. That's how you end up with a marner deal. After a 69 point season he was looking for 8 x 9m... that would sure look nice now wouldn't it?

Bo Horvat and Robertson both love this contract for sure.

What is I would have taken and bridge deal for 2 years?

Voted good deal because I do like Stutzle, but Holy mama there's some risk to this deal.

High Risk, High Reward

There's no risk in this deal. He scored 59 points as a 20 year old, which is better than 99% of players at that age.

He's going to be a star.
