Dude no one is taking on Foefele for nothing, he's easily going to cost at least a 2nd to move. GMs with cap space aren't helping Holland out of his caphell. GMs are around the league don't think that Foegele has much value.

this is my favorite argument on this site.
you have direct lines of communication with the "GM's around the league" to have this intel?

Foegele certainly has value, teams won't have to pay up to get him and Edmonton certainly won't have to pay to get rid of him if that is their path forward.

The Sabres haven't shown any inclination to just take cap to be swell guys. Frankly nobody has. I think I would take foegele if he came with a second, he doesn't fit what the Sabres are doing, but the Sabres plan appears to be to roll several talented kids at forward in the top 9, not much grit to be found. Zaitsev I would pass on. All zaitsev would do is give us 3 right shot d on the roster, but he's not good, and he has the extra bonus year to boot.

      I agree on all counts.
Both could be sent to Rochester if they cannot make the line up and the Sabres walk away with 3 second round picks.
Foegele may not find a spot on a healthy line up but he is an insurance policy if Peterka needs more time in Rochester and is an upgrade over Sheahan.
Zaitsev may be terrible but he is better than Bogosian.
It is important to not underestimate how important 3 RHD are to the offense and defense.
Think back to the empty net goal Tuch scored against Vegas.
Eichel was on his back hand and could not get the puck past Alex.
A left hand defenseman playing on the right side would face the same problem and is vulnerable to being pressured by a forward.

Pretty funny how Sabres fans think Foegele wouldn't make the top-9 on a team that hasn't / likely won't make the playoffs, when he was in the top-9 on his last two teams, both of which are Stanley Cup contenders.

Yeah, it's his go-to line. It's actually pretty funny considering GM's around the league have shown over and over that they LOVE this player type, trading 1st round picks and signing them to big money and term.

I like the idea of foegele better, I don't think it's gonna happen. Adams said he wasn't gonna bring in vets to block the kids, and he's stood by that, our big ufa forward was Vinnie hinostroza. So this year will be about seeing exactly what we have with all of these young players. I expect any philosophical adjustments, like deciding a guy like foegele needs to be added, that'll be next summer. Plus attendance should be better, pegula likely will let adams spend more money.

The smart move for Ottawa would be to send Zaitsev to the AHL so he would help over there to make the playoffs and have another year of his contract pass.

Then pay his bonus next summer and then dump the last 2.5 M$ for a relatively cheap asset

Of course, ownership would have to veto this and agree to spend another 4.5 on Zaitsev instead of two 2nds like this
