They need a RD, but they don't need another awful contract with terms. Habs pass

Not too sure about Hoffman but I dont really know what Schmitt's value really is either.
I would like to see a similar deal but with different players. Maybe Dillon for Bailey or something like that??

Schmit plays both sides
he was actually primarily on the right side last year but i hear what you're saying about his contract. If anything the jets should keep him around and see what they got. He's been traded too many times, maybe he just needs some consistency

Montreal is not the ones adding here, Schmitt is signed 1 year longer for 1.5 mil more. For Montreal to take that deal the Jets need to add a good prospect or 2nd round pick IMO.

EDIT*** Also IF we wanted a LD that can play the right side we would just flip Eddy, Harris or Guhle to the right side since they all have experience playing there.

Where did I say Schmitt was a dump? I said his contract is longer and more expensive. Cap space is king these days, if you want someone to take more cap and term back then you have to compensate them for it.

The Jets aren't moving Schmidt for a cap dump. You'll need to add significant assets to Hoffman to dump him, he's pretty useless.

A guy’s who score 15 goal on a down year is a cap dump?
By the way he have the same amount of goal then a certain Wheeler who is paid twice what Hoffman make.

Habs decline. That's too much cap for Habs to take on. Hughes been saying he's trying to shed cap

They should put Schmidt on PP#1, he's soooo much better at QBing the PP then Morrissey is. I like Morrissey but he fumbles the puck at the blueline way too often, Schmidt has a better shot too.

Wheeler is close to a point pet game player, Huffman isn't. Wheeler is a good player, Hoffman isn't. Hoffman is a cap dump.

Wheeler have score the same amount of goal for twice as much. So Wheeler is a huge cap dump. Hoffman make 4,5 millions and score 20 goal on a regular basis, he will get there again this year. 4,5 millions is what 20 goal scorer get paid in this league. Does Hoffman make a team better, i doubt but he can help on the PP and he can score goal from anywhere on the ice. Those 2 things alone are worthy of 4,5 millions a season. Listening to everyone around here 90% of the contract are cap dump. Overpaid is a thing but cap dump is another one. Sean Monahan was a cap dump since Calgary needed to unload salary. Trading a overpaid players by taking another overpaid players isn’t cap dumping, it’s call managing contract. There a big difference between Hoffman and Andrew Ladd. One can still play in this league and contribute. Because you don’t like the idea of Hoffman in Winnipeg doesn’t make him a cap dump. Not sure you understand what cap dump mean. If you trade a contract and get the same amount of money there no cap dumping involved.

You can believe what you want, but Wheeler and in this trade Schmidt are still very good and good players respectively. Hoffman is a bad player, that no one wanted the last time he was a UFA and Montreal somehow panicked an overpaid to sign him. Nothing has changed, no one wanted Hoffman then and no one wants him now,so he's yours, unless you pay a decent price to dump him.

A player that is only barely passable when getting max PP1 time and an absolute liability at any other time isn't as valuable as you think. Which was demonstrated the last time Hoffman was UFA.

Since when Schmidt is a good players, is defensive metrics are god awful. There a good reason why no team keep him. If he where that good Vancouver wouldn’t have acquired a overly paid EkmanLarson to replace him. A line up filler players just like Hoffman.

Cool, Hoffman it's a liability wheneve everywhere nut the PP and no one wants a expensive, mediocre PP specialist. Montreal is stuck with Hoffman and the Jets will keep Schmidt. Everyone is happy!smile

And no one want a overpriced defenseman who can’t play defense. Winnipeg was so sucker they traded for Him.

Can't see how Hoffman is viewed as a cap dump by Jets fans but they think Schmidt is valuable.
