I don't think that's a crazy trade to make, I'm not sure what Arizona is doing with Hayton and why he's not signed. And Sandin will watch one finger on his monkey's paw curl as he gets his ice time...in Arizona.

No idea why the Ducks are giving up assets for Kerfoot, though. You're probably going to have to basically trade him for FC - if the Wild had to trade a fairly useful Dmitry Kulikov and his $2.25M cap hit for nothing, I can't see the fairly useful Kerfoot's $3.5M hit bringing back any asset.

We've got no real reason to pay you anything for Kerfoot, FC or peddle him elsewhere. Our left and center are both full up.

Like seriously, what is the incentive for us to buy Kerfoot from you as a rental? His points will stagnate here, we would be lucky to get back what we paid for him at the TDL, and we probably use all three retention spots this season on rentals we already have.

We are not going to bump anyone from the left or center, especially any of the kids.

Where would he fit?

I feel Kerfoot's probs going for some depth guy on the ducks like Grant or Carrick in a 1 for 1 or a 5th would go back (kind of like the OB trade where he want for significantly less value cause of a dump)

But moving on to the Hayton for Sandin trade I wonder if something like that is actually in the works

If the Coyotes do move on from Chycrun they will need a guy to come and eventually take his spot (insert Sandin)

When looking at the direction the Coyotes are going Hayton seems to not be a part of it as why is it taking so long to sign him. To me this suggests they are exploring all options rn and if Toronto came and said here's Sandin they might go sure

Kerfoots value will be to a budget team as his Cap is 3.5mil but only 750,000 in real dollars. Team have paid in the past for these type of players. Teams cant find UFA's that give them this type of cap hit with no real money owed. If he is traded i agree that it will be for a lesser cap player and later pick. Kerfoot still hold value as member of the team as a swiss army knife type of player and we would not pay to get rid of him when we can waive Holl/Simmer/Clifford/Anderson

He holds value to you, the budget teams are already set at middle six. The Ducks literally have no spot for him on the roster, we don't care that he is only owed 750k, you would have needed to move him to us before we signed Vatrano to do the same thing for his real money owed to have mattered. Only way we take him is to move a roster player back the other way, such as Grant.

We would do Grant for Kerfoot straight up, as we get the better player, but Toronto still gets a swiss army knife type guy and 2 mil in savings. We have absolutely no reason to add draft capital to that exchange.

That value exists when teams are below the cap floor and need to add AAV to their roster to reach it. The moment every team hits the floor the value added by such a contract disappears and you are left with the value of the actual player.

Kerfoot has value as a player, but not to Anaheim. A team that more or less does not want to get (much) better this season. They aren't making the playoffs and Kerfoot takes ice time away from a younger player and gets the Ducks a worse draft position. That's a lose-lose for Anaheim.

He needs to be traded to a playoff team but none of them have the cap space. Honestly, from an outsiders perspective Kerfoot is the exact type of depth player that the Leafs need to finally push into the 2nd round. I'm baffled by why Leafs fans want to trade him so badly.

He has the largest forward contract outside the big four guys and already has a potential internal replacement in Nick Robertson. Its not that he is a bum, rather he is the piece that makes the most sense to move to get cap compliant without running a skeleton crew roster.

Did you even read what i posted? I stated just as you did what i thought his trade value would be but added a late pick(6-7) and I also stated that he had value to the Leafs and named players that should be gone before him.

I really do not see the Ducks as a budget teams as much as say Buff/Win/Ari where the ownership at this point would rather have cap hit/low real dollars or insured dollars.

The Kerfoot/Grant trade would make the most sense if a deal was done between both teams I just don't think Kerfoot is the first to go

He's got a 10-team NTC that probably includes many, if not all, of the "budget teams".

edited to add: Also, every single team is above the cap floor as we speak, so there's no one crying out for a "more cap hit than real dollars" type of contract at this point.
