Young RHD the Canucks could try to trade for

Created by: audiodave
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 29, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Canucks need to improve their RD depth. I've made this list of young players they could go after. I avoided players who are very unlikely to be moved (Dobson, Schnieder).
Canucks fans, who would you try to trade for? Who's missing from the list?
Other team fans, what's the asking price?

I made a poll but only 3 options showed up.

Not sure what Vancouver has that LA would be interested in. Rathbone is interesting, but not at the cost of Grans or Durzi.

I don’t think Fabbro would be traded. Really the only one I disagree with. Some other players that might not be trade targets are Durzi and Peeke.

none of these players are currently on the block besides Lundqvist.

I wasn't saying that any of them are on the trade block. They are the type of player that the Canucks need, and I don't think any are "untouchable".

Contrary to my esteemed colleague, I think Helge Grans for Jack Rathbone is a possibility. The biggest bar might be the intra-divisional aspect.

How good a prospect is Linus Karlsson? He's about the only prospect of yours I see the Rangers taking for Lundkvist. Some of the others would probably cost you Nils Hoglander.

Maybe Brodie Wilde? As a habs fan his name has come up with us lately…I don’t now cause His non vax stance seems problematic as I don’t think he can cross boarders, right?

I think Durzi is more available than Grans, mostly due to his contract demands and the Kings current cap situation. However, the Kings aren't going to want to trade their biggest trade chip for futures. They'll want something that makes a difference now. Their big roster gap is LHD. Outside of Hughes, there's nothing at that position that the Kings would be interested in, so I don't think there's a match here.

I agree that Grans for Rathbone could be good for both teams.
Karlsson had a good year in the SHL after moving from C to RW, 26G 20A in 56GP.
I'm not opposed to trading Hoglander.

I don't know what the current rules are for crossing the border.

I think the Kings would be interested in Rathbone. Unproven in the NHL but has put up some great numbers in the AHL and looks ready to take the next step.

I do think the Kings would be interested in Rathbone if he were made available, but not in exchange for Durzi or Grans.

The Kings have a size and toughness problem on the back end. Grans is one of their only defensemen with size. Rathbone is 5'11".

Unless Zub signs an extension this week and Thomson plays lights out at camp and preseason, I can't see Ottawa wanting to move JBD. The right side of their blue line is their weakest position right now.

Our RHD is confused and uncertain at the moment, so we're not giving up assets like Peeke until we have a firmer idea of what we have. Unless you pay us so much that we opt not to bother with that consideration.

Basically, you can probably call us next offseason and we might have something for you, but not this one.

Fabbro is pretty untouchable unless a sizeable return, including an immediate replacement, was coming back to NSH. RD isn't in surplus so I really can't see moving him.

Agreed, but Peeke for Pettersson sounds good to me

...I don't disagree, but that might be just a teensy tiny bit of a stretch. grin
