lol no it wouldn't. look at previous deadline. 1st, 3rd, and olausson would get it done. especially a 2023 1st.

He's a rental. Teams never give up roster players on ELC's for rentals. 1st + Olausson (recent 1st) + lesser pick/prospect would get it done. Maybe Detroit pick a different teams 1st+prospect package though, but that's the ballpark.

Avs don't need retention on Larkin. Theyll have like $18m in deadline capspace since they have $3m+ in capspace accruing.

Watson and Pysyk I just went for a couple of depth guys who can skate, play depth roles well, and are cheap

So long as he remains unsigned....

Same goes for MacKinnon too, though as a contender the Avs obviously won't trade him even if he remains unsigned at the TDL.

Detroit would laugh at this offer. If things have truly gone that badly between player and team theirs likely 15 other playoff teams that beat this offer fairly easily

I believe OTT will either be in a playoff spot OR contending for one at the trade deadline.
They'd likely just hang onto Watson since a 4th isn't any kind of motivation to give up a guy who'll block point shots on the PK like his life depended on it.
Hell, if he can put up another 10 goals this year he might even earn himself a 1 yr deal to stay in OTT as a depth guy for 23-24. (Not that I'm hoping for that.)

You're probably right that other teams could beat the offer, but the 1st+ good prospect+ B prospect/3rd sort of package would definitely be in the ballpark. It would simply come down to which prospect Detroit would prefer.

Also note that some playoff teams like Tampa and Florida don't have their 2023 or 2024 1sts which already removes two teams from the equation, so that's only 13 teams to compete with.

Of those remaining 13 teams a few already have great center depth and probably wouldn't want to mortgage their future on renting Larkin... Like Edmonton, Calgary, and Pittsburgh for example.

A few bottom seeded teams probably won't be as all-in as Colorado either. Teams like St Louis, Dallas, Minnesota, LA, Nashville, NY Rangers.

Point being, although there would clearly be plenty of competition it wouldn't be 15 teams.

Worth noting that other forwards like Patrick Kane will also be on the market so the Avs will have options.

Ottawa are up against it to bridge the gap in the east. I hope they do it though, always nice to see young teams do well.

you are crazy lol Larkin is a top 20 center in the league as if you get him for that price

would you have traded landeskog for that trade when he was on his UFA season?
No that's what i thought

Larkin is the captain of detroit and is a michigan boy and with the way detroit is trending he most likely is gonna resign. Detroit also lacks a potential 1C replacement outside of Kasper down the line so 100% detroit will be asking for Newhook in return.

maybe if Detroit and Larkin come to some decision that they will basically just "Rent" Larkin to colorado for the rest of regular season and PO's and then resign in detroit after they will consider this trade but since that is highly unlikely Detroit will definitely be turning down this Offer.

Newhook+23 1st is literally the minimum for Larkin rental or not, he would literally be the difference maker in which colorado goes back to back guaranteed or not

Newhook, a 1st, + is reasonable to ask as a base but Larkin is still a pending UFA. Odds are Bowers passes through waivers this year so his value is pretty much non-existent. However I do not think there is a world where a pending UFA returns 2 1sts + an A level prospect unless they are a clear superstar. The Hampus Lindholm return is more in line with what Larkin should return

if that's the price sign boston up ill gladly give up something like
24 1st+ debrusk+ lohrei+ 25 2nd

if we could convince larkin to stay we could have the fastest line in the league with
hall-larkin-pasta you could even sub lysell for one of the wingers and have an even faster line

It doesn't matter if he's a top 20 center, he's still an UFA.

I agree it's likely that he stays in Detroit, but big players have left their teams in UFA before for a variety of reasons.

Of course I wouldn't have traded Landeskog because the Avs were contenders. If the Avs were outside the playoffs and Landeskog didn't want to stay though then I would have considered it, but not otherwise.

As for Newhook + 1st, no other team is offering anything like that for a rental. Not happening.

If Detroit isn't getting the most ready young C or best C prospect they probably don't make the trade since they lack center depth as mentioned by Dekes, and they are a team moving towards contention now. So, Colorado is only making this trade if they think they can sign Larkin most likely or they really like their chances at a repeat. Maybe Detroit could add in Veleno (or Zadina) so that Colorado is ensured that they aren't left with nothing. He's not going to hold too much value, so maybe Colorado gives up a second in addition.

Lindholm+Curran (not sure how much value he carries) brought in a young prospect + 1st + two 2nds + Moore (probably just a cap component), I would think Larkin brings in at least Newhook+1st+2nd, and with Veleno a second 2nd up to Newhook+two 1sts depending on who edges out in negotiations. If Larkin isn't available then the ask will just be ridiculous like Newhook+2023 1st + 1 or 2 other A-assets, ad then Col would just look elsewhere.

I think Tyler Bertuzzi is a guy who can maybe end up as a rental in Colorado.

Interesting idea with Zadina or Veleno, would definitely make it better.

Lindholm got a haul partly because he was willing to extend in Boston where he signed immediately. One of the 2nd's was to compensate for the Moore capdump too, so the value for Lindholm alone was 1st + 2nd + good prospect... which is not far off what I'm talking about with 1st + Olausson + B prospect/3rd.
