Take out Spence and the 3rd and Kings might consider it.

Of course you will get cap dump comments, it's a Habs player! Not a single one of them have any value, at least if you listen to any non-Habs fans on this site! Reality is Eddy would get back more, just look at what Chiarot got then add to that.

Sean walker might never get back to high level, he’s been severely injured last year, Wagner is a pure cap dump. Montreal have absolutely no incentive to trade away a extremely reliable defender on a good contract for Walker and Wagner. Kings need cap space to sign Durzi and have Grans who is very close to NHL. They have Clarke who is coming up to. Kings have made move this offseason to win now.

I valued Spence a hole lot.

But adding Walker and Wagner also lowers the relative value of the package coming back.

There is not a player on the Habs at LD which I would want to give up Spence or Durzi.

The Kings traded Faber as the key piece for Fiala. Durzi and Spence are more proven as pros and are starting to garner 1st round value. We'll be looking for a young top-4 LD, Montreal just doesn't have the pieces we are looking for.

I'd put Edmundson and Walker around equal value. Walker even more so since he's younger, cheaper, and plays the much more rare RD position. He might lose a little bit of value because he's returning from injury, but the Kings will just hold on to him for a while a la Tarasenko for him to showcase that he's still a legit defender rather than giving up a top qualify young defenseman like Spence for a meh 30-year old defenseman.

Wagner buried in the AHL costs the Kings a whopping $9k in cap space. Not sure why they'd need to dump him at all.

I'd trade Durzi before I traded Spence.

Completely contextual, but Habs fans are always tring to fit square pegs in round holes for a premium with 0 regard of the other teams roster. MTLs value for players is not the same as any other roster's evaluation of those players. for example Armia to Buffalo, makes 0 sense for Buffalo as Armia is supplanted by players on the Sabres roster already and doesnt fit their age or development and the Sabres already have a lot of bodies, so for Buffalo all Armia is is a cap dump. In this case for LA they have 9 dmen (2 yet to be signed), at least 4 supplant Edmundsson, this doesnt make sense for them

Very well put, Shibbie. EXTREMELY well put. This is completely analogous to Jake Muzzin with Toronto fans. Muzzin is worth more to the Maple Leafs than to any other team: Toronto needs him, but no other team (1) needs an expensive veteran LhD AND (2) has the cap space for him; the only teams that can afford him are bottom-dwellers who won't have a competitive window opening for the remainder of Muzzin's contract, if ever.

We shouldn’t consider it at all. We already have very little money to sign Durzi and Anderson. That trade will take away somewhere around 400-700k cap space which is a lot considering how much cap we currently have left and the two unsigned players we have.

I don't think Durzi will be on the Kings by the end of training camp.

I’m confident he will. He has been spending lots of time with his teammates this off-season.

Sidney Crosby (and quite a few players that come to Manhattan Beach for off-season training) spends a lot of time with Kings players in the off-season.

He’s gonna sign a 1 year - 1.85M contract. Give it up to two weeks for the news.

So that means you expect Anderson to take a $2M contract? He's due significantly more than that.

The Islanders didn't do the Kings any favors by giving Romanov that 3 year @ $2.5M contract. Their careers thus far have been remarkably similar.

Unless Durzi is willing to take less than $1.5M, I don't see a spot for him on the Kings.

Negative my friend. LA will start the season with a 22-Man Roster. Durzi 1 year @ 1.85M and Anderson 2 Year @ 2.75M. Just give it couple weeks or less. It’s in the works.

Who are they going to subject to waivers to make that extra open spot?

No one, Kupari, Bjornfot, Moverare and Lias Anderson will all likely start at the Ahl. If I’m not mistaking Kupari should still be exempt.

So your roster looks like this :

Fiala-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
Iafallo-Byfield-Kaliyev
Lemieux-Lizotte-Grundstrom
Vilardi

Anderson-Doughty
Walker-Roy
Edler-Durzi
Spence?

That means Andersson, JAD, and Moverare all have to pass through waivers.

Anderson and JAD yes. Keep Moverare on roster. Have Spence start in AHL and up him up mid season.

If it were just a coin flip for a roster spot, then maybe, but it's not.

Aside from the fact that it's poor asset management to just give away three quality prospects, you're severely crippling what the Kings are able to do in case of injury. They'll only have one sub at each position and no cap space to call up extras if more than one gets hurt. If you want to LTIR someone for cap relief, you have to sideline them for a month.

After what the Kings went through last season, along with the fact that both Walker and Arvidsson are both just returning from major injuries, they're not going to go into this season with only 22 players.

This generalization that all Habs fans are ignorant and don't pay attention to other teams needs or wants could be characterized as flaming. You assume that none of us do but many (not all) do actually pay attention. Just cause someone says Armia is not a cap dump on a Sabres thread doesnt mean that they think there is a fit. It simply is said to counter the ridiculous people who think all Habs players are cap dumps. I for one have had many discussions with fans of other teams on the validity of my trades and I try to only make trades where there is a fit for both sides (most that aren't a fit for fans on this site are based on trades discussed on other sites). I generally also try to look at the cap space another team has, but go ahead generalize all Habs fans as being ignorant, you will end up getting reported for it one of these days.
