Devils decline. Muzzin would be on their third pair, so that cap space is better used somewhere else.

Another delusional Leaf fan trying to dump someone they don't want by using the "veteran presense" bull****.

Take a note of Muzzin's final year, M-NTC and a pay check of only $2 million.

There will be interest from other teams on him.

Oh, forgot to mention, Murray will fail. Samsonov gets rewarded as the starter.

The big question we should all ask is what if both succeed

This is gonna create a huge dilemma

As do you then trade Samsonov when his value is high

or

Try to keep both

Gonna be interesting as to me if Sammy rebounds you do everything in your power to get him extended as then you got a future starter

Believe me, Muzzin is a huge part of the leafs and I’m very happy he wasn’t traded this offseason. But next year I think Sandin will be ready for a top four role and the leafs should have enough experience by then to afford to lose Muzzin. He doesn’t necessarily have to go to the devils, but as I explained I see him as a good fit there. I also think the fact that they traded for PK Subban who was making 9 million and was a worse defensemen then Muzzin shows that they would be willing to make this type of move.

I think in this scenario Murray outperforms Sammy and the leafs don’t qualify him. If Sammy becomes the starter than that’s great. Sign him long term and trade Murray in a Mrazek style deal, but I actually believe in Murray a bit more for next year

So they made a mistake and would choose to do it again? Or maybe they learn from mistakes?

Muzzin and Subban are different situations. Muzzin is a lot cheaper, signed for only one more year, and plays a style that doesn’t force him to be a good skater to be effective. Where they are similar is the fact that they are proven top four defensemen with finals experience who can offer a lot to a young team lacking veterans.

You keep selling that veteran presence, but you just keep trying to ignore the fact you are desperate to dump him for cap reasons. The veteran presence can be had a lot cheaper and better without doing a team a favor. It isn't Muzzin or no one.

Actually as the leafs found out after picking up guys like Hainsey and Thornton over the years, if the veteran sucks they’re pretty much useless. Not only do you need veterans, but you need veterans who can meaningfully contribute, that’s why I’m selling the vet presence thing
