If you want EDM's 1st, you'd have to retain cap on Soucy. Making this move as is would still leave them up **** creek cap-wise and without a paddle (their 1st).

Edmonton will have to make multiple moves tbh — Soucy is worth a first with retention if Seattle doesn’t retain or take back Foegele. Look at the Chiarot deal. Soucy is the guy people think Chiarot is.

Man, that'd be fun to bring Eberle back at half his cost. Barzal would be thrilled.

Nobody is paying a 1st for a 6th / 7th defenseman regardless of retention. That's just silly.

Chiarot played top-4 through their run to the Finals, before and since. Soucy has never played top-4.

He played top four in Seattle and had very good metrics in minnesota. He’s a very good player.

Not true. Among defensemen who played at least 200 minutes, Soucy was 6th on the Kraken for 5v5 TOI/ GP last year, and 6th for all strengths TOI/GP. He wasn't a regular on the PP and was 5th on the team for PK usage. He's a 6th defenseman even in a bad Seattle club, no team is giving up a 1st for him.

Evolving hockey had him 4th in total ice time so
I’m confused af lol. But Soucy has great analytics and had the best plus/minus on a horrible team last year.

I’m sure he wasn’t top four tho until they moved Giordano. And Lauzon plays a crazy high number of PK minutes per game too.

nhl.com agrees with me. Soucy is - and has always been - a 3rd pairing defenseman. Ben Chiarot played big minutes for the Canadiens, and a big guy who can play a lot of heavy minutes always has appeal to NHL teams. Third pairing guys are dime-a-dozen.

I believe you. Soucy has great metrics tho. Wouldn’t shock me if he gets a lot at the deadline.

We'll see. He's fairly expensive for a 3rd pairing guy who doesn't do special team very well. They'll have to retain to get interest.

There was interest at the deadline lmao. He was +9 and his PK and PP metrics r very solid. This is a ridiculous discussion to be having. He’s a good player. Being behind Giordano and Dunn isn’t embarrassing.

His PP and PK metrics don't mean as much as his usage. He's not on either of the 1st or 2nd units of either special team, he only gets spot duty if one of the regulars is in the box or injured. He's just not that good of a player.

There's no reason for Edmonton to give up more for Soucy than they did for Kulak last season. A 1st + a good player is a ridiculous ask.

Who is the good player? Foegele? He’s not worth anything lol.

You're underestimating him then. Chicago just got two 1sts for Hagel, who isn't as good as Foegele. This type of player is highly valued by playoff teams.

Foegele v Hagel

Foegele v Goodrow

Foegele v Coleman

The idea Foegele is better than Hagel is ridiculous lmao — I can’t have a serious conversation if this is the type of argument you are going to bring up.

Foegele doesn’t penalty kill nearly as much as Coleman or Goodrow, and Hagel had double the amount of PK time as Foegele too. It’s a ridiculous comparison because Foegele can’t play on special teams, and is a poor finisher unilime Hagel. Give me a ****ing break bro. Ur cherry picking and you know it.
